![]() The reason it is safe to download abandonware now is because it's a civil offence, so being prosecuted for it is dependent on the copyright holder being willing to take action against somebody who is downloading or hosting abandonware. The trend in British law (and in many other countries too) is towards making copyright offences a criminal offence, in which case, the police are obliged to take action against you if they find you persistantly offending (and I'd say that pretty much everyone on this site could be classifed as a "persistant offender"). Alongside the threat of breaking off internet access, etc (which your ISP can do with the barest minimum of effort) this does make for a serious concern to UK abandonware-users. Not that signing a petition will necessarily make things right, but hey, it doesn't cost anything.

![]() as i red there is a problme as the propposed law is against digital rights act, which protects the data transmited form and to user.
another thing is that prohibition never solved things, it just pushed it away from the eyes... if the companies want more money from DVD's why not make them cheaper so people can buy them? we had some good DVD's here for cheap prize if you bought the magazine with it. i know for some that they were sold out very fast. the DVD in there was like 3.5 or 4 EUR. Is there any good reason for a game to cost 55 EUR this year, 20 EUR next and 5 EUR later? i mean other than they know they will make most money like that and that people will still buy it while it's fresh but later they will probably download it or something... Bah the whole copying and having the right to do it is a stupid idea. this whole thing should be solved in a different way.

Anyway politicians are too trigger-happy about a number of things, it's all too obvious that they don't live under the laws they make for the rest of us. In my opinion if you start to violate principles like, there can't be a crime without a victim, any political nightmare is possible in the long run.
