That's the standard design.
Believe me, I hate it as much as you, but you'll have trouble finding a cheap one easily. There used to be a excellent old brand that would only cost up to $30 or so, named "Commander Headset" but I doubt they're in production anymore. Your best bet is to surf around Amazon, or wait for someone with more luck that me to post a better suggestion.
