Dear Abandonia visitors: We are a small team that runs one of the largest DOS Games websites in the world. We have only 3 members of staff, but serve 450,000 users and have outgoing costs like any other top site for example: our servers, power, rent, programs, and staff. Abandonia is something special. It is a library of old games for you to download. It is like an old gaming arcade with all the old games in their original format. Abandonia is a place where you can find great old games and have fun four hours and years. To protect our independence, we are dependent of our friends using the site. We run on donations averaging around 6 USD (5 Euro). If everyone reading this gave the price of a cup of coffee, our fundraiser would be made easier. If Abandonia is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online for another year. Please help us forget fundraising and get back to Abandonia.

When Abandonia was founded it was to collect and present all old games where the copyright protection had been abandoned, hence the term ’abandonware’ and the site name Abandonia.com. We are still doing our best to keep the site open and free and will appreciate your support to help it stay that way.

‐ Thank you from the Abandonia Team

We are trying to make it easy for people in every country to donate. Please let us know how we could make it easier for you.

Please give whatever you can to help us.

Dawn Patrol is a World War I combat flight simulator that has you doing certain historical missions. The game acts as a history book; showing different events of WWI (air related), and also giving background behind the different aces of the war.

First I'll talk about the good points in this game. The detail of the setting, and detail in the history is great. You can learn a bit of WWI just from skimming through the briefings, and the ace pilot biographies. Next is graphic, and my, they are pretty neat looking. When I ran the game, I could only run it under VGA graphics, but when I started to play, I was amazed by the graphics. The ground look pretty realistic compared to other flight sims I have played. The detail on the aircrafts are astounding, you can see the material of the plain and make out everything easily, unlike in other games where everything is a solid colour (ie: Flight Sim 95). The internal cockpit is the same as most flight simulators: a high resolution cockpit replica. The game play is great with accurate flight controls, and the fun of shooting down airplanes, but sadly, you can't fully enjoy a flight simulator, especially a combat one, without a joystick. If you are one of those lucky ones who has an old DOS compatible joystick, you are going to have lots of fun.

Next the bad parts of Dawn Patrol. The one noticeable con of Dawn Patrol is the sound. The game has a few sounds, including gunfire, engine drones, and the sounds of bullets flying off the plane. The problem with this is that the volumes of the sounds are unbalanced, which can get annoying. Other then that, the game is pretty good overall.

All-in-all, I have to say that this game is an average flight simulator. It is pretty fun, and not as confusing as some games I have seen, and its easy to learn how to play. Due to the setting of the game, the player doesn't need to worry about communication channels, and targeting systems. I give this game a 4 out of 5.
