I saw this in my shop today;

DDR 512RAM 400MHz ~ 53 euros

DDR2 512RAM 533MHz ~ 42 euros

What gives? Could anyone explain to me why is the newer chip cheeper and better? BTW what does that MHz give to the chip? Power??? :blink:

Mhz gives it speed. The more the better, although it should really be the same speed as the FSB on your motherboard.

No idea why it's cheaper though :blink:

ddr2 is used in some of the top intel systems.

ddr1 is used in amd systems, and 2nd generation of intel systems.

Still amd have a advantage, since it got a memory controller onChip, where as intel have in on the motherboard instead.(ie amd have lower latency cpu><ram)

ddr1 runs with tight timing, where ddr2 is running with more relaxed timings, but then ddr2 can run at faster mhz.

Amd is going to shift to ddr2 soon, with some of the never processors.

Were these both the same brand? If so, where they both from the same shop?

Memory chips are very susceptible to price fluctuations because of all that speculation...at least in my country.

Aye memory chips price is very fluctuating, I think it has to do with corporate upgrading cycles or something...
