![]() Hey guys, I'm trying to run SimIsle but just cannot get it to work! I'm pretty new to DosBox, only having played Warcraft and Settlers II.
[SNIP. Please don't link to warez sites. Okay, so my problem is I run the install but when I go to install it says "Cannot install SimIsle to the same directory you are installing from." So here is what I tried: I only have 1 drive, so I partitioned it and tried to install from one to the other - Failed Loaded the files onto a flash drive and installed from there - Failed Loaded onto a CD and installed from there - Failed get the same message everytime I have windows 7 I just drag the files from the download into dosbox. I also tried running from D-fend and it installed successfully but when I went to run the game it opens briefly but then closes. Last edited by The Fifth Horseman; 09-08-2012 at 09:26 AM. |

Please follow this tutorial to learn how to set up and use DOSBox correctly: http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=14406 Quote:
For DOSBox to access your drives, you need to mount them first - and the way you do it doesn't have to have much with the actual drive letters on your system (you can - and should - mount a directory as your DOSBox C drive). Quote:

![]() Firstly, thank you very much for your help! I really appreciate it.
Okay, so I followed your beginner's guide and have Dosbox set up with Norton Commander. I still cannot get it to work... I just don't understand what I am doing wrong. I played around with it for over an hour and couldn't get anywhere. So here I am again! http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/545/sim2r.png/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/690/sim1r.png/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/705/sim3p.png/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/12/sim4y.png/ |

![]() Depends on what you have downloaded ... can't you ask where you downed the game? They should know how to do this.
Anyway, I would say: mount the folder with the install files as D: (cdrom) mount d "x:\full path to folder\" -t cdrom Install from D: on C: within dosbox. (don't forget to mount your virtual C: ) Also: sure it needs to be installed or is it pre-installed? (ready to run in dosbox?)

Second: In order for the installer to work, you need to have two mounted drives: one you are installing from and one you are installing to. We can solve that easily by using the subst command. Start DOSBox, navigate to the directory where the installer is and enter this: subst d . d: install And yes, that is a period after d, with a space between the two. |

![]() SUBST is a DOS command. In DOSBox it's an alias for MOUNT.
What you did is mount the installation folder as the D partition, switched to it and then started the installer. |
