This was one of the first games that I ever owned. I still have it on floppy disk in the crawl space.

This game is full of win, just like it's cousin F15 Strike Eagle. Both games are extremely similar in appearance and mechanics, but where F15 is all about showing the enemy how much the F15 powns in the sky, F19 is all about making it to your target and back alive. I can't remember how many night I've spend flying trough darkness at 20 metres above the ground in an attempt to take out that nuclear reactor. Both these games are very highly recommended.

Hey there, I have dug this game out of storage for the first time in ages, and I've forgotten how amazing it actually is! The only problem is, I don't have the keyboard map! I can remember 99% of the controls, but there are some I can't! Are there any nice people out there who have a scan or anything like that? The main thing I can't find it how to fire the main gun cannon (without a joystick)!
Thanks all! Stu |

Notes on Simulation Controls
Change Mission to Training (Alt and 't' key): Tapping this key
converts your current mission into a training mission. This means that
henceforth enemy weapons do no damage. Tapping Alt 't' again exits
training.
Once a mission is converted to training you cannot score any points
for it, even if you toggle training off again. However, the slew controls
and resupply key only function when training is active.
Keyboard Control Stick Adjust ('Ins' key): This regulates the
amount of control stick movement a keypress causes. We recommend you use
this key frequently while flying, and always set the sensitivity to "1"
on your final approach to landing.
Detail Adjust (Alt and 'd' key): The level of detail affects the
game's speed.
Slew (Alt and 'i'j'k'l' keys): These keys function _only_ in
training. Tapping the key "teleports" your aircraft in that direction.
The distance you're teleported varies with the current Zoom/UnZoom scale
of the satellite/radar map. Slew is an excellent way to check out the
region while trainig.

By the way, does anyone know if there are any reasonably recent sims with F-19's kind of focus on stealth? I know F-117 came out two or three years later, and that it's basically the same but with a different (real) plane and better graphics. However, I'm looking for something more recent.
As far as I know, all the F-22-centered games don't model stealth-related issues like RCS, for example. It's a shame, as I love being the flying equivalent of a ninja. Last edited by ShadowBlade; 12-03-2008 at 02:51 PM. |

I do have the keyboard template and I could scan it (assuming my scanner still works, it has been years since I last used it).
So let me know. |

A blast from the past! One of the best games ever created. I first played this on a C64 and then promptly bought the PC version. Nothing finer than blasting the sub pens at Sevastopol and high tailing it out of enemy territory. Sierra Hotel folks. I never did check out F-117...just wasn't sure it'd live up to its predecessor.

Really, it's like an upgraded version of the same game (you could call it F-19 v2.0):
- F-19 replaced by F-117 - Better graphics - Better sound - More theatres to fight on (Cuba and Vietnam, among others) The only downside, at least aesthetically, is the absence of the F-19, oddly enough. Even though it didn't exist, the F-19 looks much cooler than the F-117 (which is the ugliest aircraft ever made). I wish there was a mod that placed the F-19 back in. |

I think there was also a patch from Microprose for this game, that changed the plane's outside graphics to the F-117's, leaving everything else in the game unchanged.
I heard that the reason for the F-117's edged design, was the limitations of the computers at the day, since in CAD software curves are approximated by more or less straight lines... Nowadays the F-22 Raptor ATF looks a little like this F-19.
