how can you predict that they'll die when they are evolving as quickly as never before?
they may become more PC-like, but still will be consoles

Not only will consoles never die, but as it becomes less and less expensive, old consoles will come back from the dead. I remember when the Atari 2600 came out for the first time. It cost $300, in 1977. Two of my older brothers diverted much of their beer money (they were both university students, at the time) to purchase one. The electronics of the Atari 2600 now fit into the same package as the original game controller. Somebody is re-releasing Atari 2600 games (several games on a controller). I see them at Walmart, and other large discount stores

The Mattel Electronics Intellivision console has also been re-released.

The cartridges are built into the game console, and the console fits into your hand, but it is the same game(s) that I played twenty-five years ago. The graphics are primitive, but the gameplay remains the same (or so I believe). While not in the same league as the Xbox, PS2, or even the original Gameboy, they are still good for hours of fun.

They won't die, not before we start building them from organic materials. <_<

Those people who are developing Consoles today are just re-inventing computer. I'd say that consoles won't "die", they will just be more and more like PCs, but they will still be called gaming consoles because their components are standardized for playing certain games.

I think they will die, because PC's can emulate them, and you have to buy these "New Generations" of consoles to play new games. Of course PC's will die too, but i think that consoles will die first.

Well, in Japan the consoles are still the number 1, as far as I know.

I don't think consoles will ever die, but if computers keep getting cheaper and consoles go up, theres really no telling. You can use a computer to play any console game, if you have a good emulator and the Roms

I agree with most. Consoles won't die. They'll evolve into media centres and gain additional functions (both Microsoft and Sony are aiming their next ,next, generation consoles to be the hub of your living room) blending in with their surroundings.

I don't like PC gaming...multiplayer gaming on the PC at the moment means online play, or multiple PCs.. give me a four+ player game of PES anyday.

Consoles will always feature in the realm of gamers, PCs are just too..inaccesible

That won't be gaming consoles anymore.

SNES was a gaming console, Genesis was a gaming console, even the N64 still was a gaming console. But if the evolution of the consoles goes on like that, the future console are just multimedia centers with additional gaming functions.

The only thing I look forward to is the Revolution. Not because I'm a BigN fanboy, but because it really seems to bring some innovation into gaming, just like the DS (which was fun for at least some time, the games for this thing are way too short and easy)
