Right now, ive read many game articles that were talking about console system.
All the articles say that its possible that the consoles die soon. Some say, that consoles will die in the year 2008 or 2010. They also say that PC never dies. Whats your opinion? I think its true. Just look at the prices of the console games (60-70€!). |

I believe it's quite unlikely that console gaming will die, as they're still a lot easier to adapt for the regular people. PC will also prevail, as there's no better office tool. The most probable phenomena is that the distinction between consoles and PCs will become considerably less apparent; consoles will be able to perform tasks commonly seen on PCs, like web browsing and word processing. Also, PCs will become much easier to use, and will gradually move to the living rooms. |
Consoles are getting more and more ridiculous. Especially GameCube, but that's another thing. They probably will die and make room for PC games eventually, but I think in 20 years or so, not in 2010.

Do consoles die soon?
ja-ja, le Consolles sind умирать muy soon. seriously though, I don't think the consoles will die anytime soon, just look at the ever increasing ammount of gamers. PC will not go out of buisiness as long as we need computers in our workplaces. and neither will games. |
Jawohlja!!!
They'll never die. |
As far as I know every 1.5th household in German already has a PC AND internet connection and girls are also since long time already not in the behind ranks of PC gamers. Comparing that to the tendency of consoles to gain some functionalities of PC's like internet connection or multiplay ability or playing video or audio and more and more people being able to use PC's well or adapting to use it well because others do, I'm sure that consoles won't last for that long anymore, although probably still longer than until 2010.
What do consoles have after all that is better than PC? Better graphics? No. Easier to use than PC? Maybe, but still many tend rather to use the PC as it's not that difficult to learn it, either. And just look at many such people who post here and have only the most basic knowledge of PC. Still they're using it. The tendency is clearly in the direction of PC's and laptops as there's far wider range of usability than on the consoles. |
Now why would someone vote Ug?
Consoles will die. Their functions are so limited. The PC is a console AND multifunctional platform useful for office works etc. as pointed out above. |
Well, imo the consoles died after about the SNES or the N64/PS area.
Today's consoles are just PCs tuned down for gaming. Back then, were the real good games, today you rarely encounter a game that's really as good as the old ones. Today you just have flashy graphics to impress, and rarely a good story. Today's and future consoles are most likely just zombies ;) Maybe some things like the DS make an exception, since that thing is really just made for innovative gaming, but that's really just an exception today. That's my opinion ;) |
Consoles are said to die since at least 15 years (when the PC first started to emerge as a serious gaming-platform). Didn't happen yet, won't happen soon (at least another 15 years). Maybe around the time the "PC" we know will also die. They won't die already because of the japanese markets and gaming-culture (when was the last time someone saw a PC-version of a POPULAR arcade-game?).
This is a discussion that came up and got really boring and tedious since the mid-90s... |
Who care when all of as gona die in 2012?
I like old and new consoles. With every new console, we got something new, more invoative, and as someone noticed, future console probably will perform many today's PC tasks. I am not one of those who has to have newest and greatest consoles, so it will take couple of years for me to adopt to new consoles. In the mean time, lunch Dreamcast.... :D |
