This was a great game for it's time. The character generation was unique and true to MT. Wish they made more more games like for modern computer systems.

So far this game looks like it has a lot of potential. Compared with the first one the interface seems a lot more sane. And I just love the character generator. However I don't really "get" the combat. There are two issues, first the speed of combat is pretty fast without much time to react even with the cycles in dosbox turned down pretty far. At least the react setting means the chars can sort it out for themselves. Secondly, I don't reallly see any feedback about what is happening. In the first game you could tell if the enemy had two much armor for you weapons since you could see you were doing zero damage. I don't see that kind of info in the sequel. Somehow I feel this game would be great if it just had been turned based.

So any combat tips from the veterans of this series? What kind of weapon skills should I be looking for in my chars? Any other important skills? Tactics or steath maybe?

OK, I have another question. How does recruiting replacements from your character pool work? The manual says you should be able to recruit other char you have made but I don't see any of them or the premades for that matter.

I remember playing this game ages ago. And by playing, I mean creating characters. I loved the character generator. But as was said by someone else here, the game itself is harder to get into.

Two questions about the game:
1) How do you take pictures of an Ancients site (those are worth Cr100,000 IIRC)?
2) What use is a Hand Computer?

Where's fifth horseman when you need him? I'd bet he has the answers we need.

Not this time, sorry. I simply never played this game.

That's a shame, I for one could use the help.

The review is spot on, I've never played the RPG but now I understand why the neighborhood gamers ate up every pen-and-paper supplement for it. Very detailed, though my own, character creations have been either dying on me during creation or washing out after one or two terms in their chosen fields ("I'm here to save your planet, but I never made it through college and I stow away on my rich canine friend's ship and mooch off his pension!" *fangirls swoon*).

Edit: Okay, I found a few tips/tricks, but they're basically monetary ones, which are kind of dumb, considering the amount of effort to go through them.

Tip 1, "Extra money":
Quote:
Locate Trow Beckett at Rhylandor near the University.
Talk to him to receive a locator, coins, and a diary.
Drop all those items.
Select "Give" and any character.
Trow will offer a random amount of money for an item.
Select "Continue" and build your total funds.[/b]
Tip 2, "Unlimited credits":
Quote:
Create a blank data disk with Scouts (saved characters) that have bank balances of over 100,000 credits.
Load the game with the current party disk (without the "rich" Scouts).
Move to a Starport with both Recruit and Account facilities and transfer all funds into individual accounts except for one character that will receive nothing.
Leave the Starport, break the party, kill the character with no funds, and return safely to the Starport.
Insert the data disk, recruit the person at the top of the list into the party, transfer all his money into another party member's account, then kill that person.
Recruit the next person on the data disk and repeat this process until all characters on the disk have been imported.
Save the game and reload.
Recruit the original character back into the party to collect all the accumulated credits.[/b]
Tip 3, "A quick tip to gain cash":
Quote:
Find a High Tech world with a low law level and buy as many PGMP's as possible, although this may only be one initially.
Then go to a lower Tech, higher law level world and sell the merchandise.
The ideal pleanets are: LLUN/EFATE (when using the trader character on the disk you can purchase a PGMP for 130500 credits) and STUR/EFATE (where not only is there a PGMP lying on the floor nesar the Gun shop, but they can be sold for 244500 credits).
In no time at all and with a little cost (because you are staying within the system) you will gain riches untold![/b]
