![]() Scanning books is very hard work, we appreciate it. Take your time.
Well myself, I think PNG is best for images with a limited amount of continuous colors (low frequencies), whereas its size is too big and JPG is better for photographic images with millions of colors or high frequencies. The loss isn't so noticeable, and can indeed be customized to reach an efficiency far superior to PNG in these cases. People forget that the fact of initially scanning/digitizing anything is already always lossy.

![]() If I purposed to change the website's policy on image formats, I'd had to discuss with the fellow crew members... Where did you find this policy that you shouldn't use JPG? I don't even know where that is.

While I was preparing the boxshots I remembered reading about the format but did not remember that it was referring to screenshots. Sorry for the confusion. Maybe the "Submitting Content to Abandonia: Here's How" instructions should include an explicit note that boxshots should be in PNG or minimally compressed JPG format? It's up to you. Cheers Eddie |

![]() Yes our games are usually well suited to PNG, at least so far. We may have to update that policy for screenshots when we get more modern Windows games with 24-bit color and more detailed graphics.
I think scans should be in high resolution JPG, because PNG would take too much space. If text is scanned into images, PNG may be used if it's processed to thoroughly remove noise and background, so PNG would actually take less space.

![]() Offer #3
I saw a request for box shots for "Start Trek: The Next Generation: A Final Unity" in this thread. I have the original packaging, CD-ROM and manual. Let me know what you would like me to scan and if any of the upload instructions have changed since the last time I contributed. Cheers Eddie |
