Ahh... I always wanted to "properly" play some of the Golden Box titles. Actually both trilogies and both Buck Roger's titles. It's just even though they seem so interesting and I heard that these games are really involving I just can't get to grips with the fact that they're so difficult at the beginning. Madly difficult I'd have to say...

Though if you'd had any tips or hints for a Golden Box Player wannabe I may wanna try playing them again. ^__^ Please? ^__^

If you have to choose between CoK and World of Xeen, choose WoX. It's easier to get into, it's more comfortable and it's also the better game. (CoK is still a good game.)

That's weird cause I just started playing CoK today... I love the more tactical approach to combat than in most other RPGs (that's why I'm also considering playing Arkania series) but the code system every second save game or so is killing me... Softly. Especially since my code book is in badly converted txt file and often can't find the correct code and have to restart a long fight or a difficult one. I've downloaded a separate one from replacementdocs.com but haven't had a chance to check it out yet...

As long as the code system is not going to be to much of a bother, I'll try to complete CoK first but if it stays the way it is now I may switch to WoX or first Arkania game.

Both the manual and Adventurer's Journal should be up on the site before long.

They're both on replacementdocs.com and they're both scanned PDFs, so they're great! ^__^

Guten Tag, Gnadige Kmonster !!

Long time..

..Now I will recommend again Wox because:
- Game system is simple, reliable and easy.
Even YOU have 5 heroes to develop, it is very easy. Magics easy up.
- nice map.
- and members who know all about the game: Supermod Paco, wise Scatty, nice Capo, good Kmoster and (stupid) yoga and many more..

Believe me, amigo, the feeling YOU play game and are supported from competent gamers is wonderful..

Of course choice is yours.

Well, if you think about it I see no reason why I shouldn't play both of these games... I started of with CoK but may start WoX some time this coming week. After all variety is good.

If it's not inappropriate to mention these, then use Rawcopy or Neverlock to simply crack the .ovr
or .exe code check. What I always did with my original versions, I can't abide doc checks or
code-wheels.

Actually one or the trilogies is a quadrilogy The Gold box games are: the 3 Dragonlance games: Champions, Death Knights and Dark Queen of Krynn, the four games in the FR epic: Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds,Secret of the Silver Blades and Pools of Darkness, the two Buck Roger games and two other FR games, Gateway to the Savage Frontier and Treasures of the Savage Frontier. And yes, they are difficult in the beginning, because low level heroes are wimps A good party and decent stats can help. And as a little tidbit, if you are not happy with the generated stats, you can modifiy the characters before starting out and max all stats, if it helps (and yes, it will). Other then that you need the Journal Entries and the Code Wheels to be able to play without hickups. And a Numeric Keypad is a must Try to do the low level quests and gather as much xp with sissy foes as possible, if your party hits level 2-3, it'll be a lot easier.

And as on the matter of Xeen being better then CoK, I'd strongly disagree. They are very different games from my perspective, the Gold Box games have more involving quests and a better written story, while Xeen is mostly a go and massacre everything the comes in your path game. Which has been carried along in all M&M titles. Plus as mentioned before, the combat in CoK is more strategic, you have to move your characters around and watch out for them to be successful.

It's all good now. Since I got the manual & adventure journals from replacementdocs it's been much more enjoyable & less stressful to play the game.
