Default Graphics question

Any suggestions on which graphic resolutions are best? I want them to be as good as they can without any issues. I have a 1680 x 1050 res widescreen monitor and understand that these old games were nowhere near that. I have done some trial and error and have had some interesting results with dosbox..

Most DOS games ran on 320x240, some went to 640x480 and very few ever went beyond that (mostly 3D-based titles: Quake, Duke Nukem 3D et al).

For anything beyond that, you'll need to use scalers.

You'll also have to use aspect correction, as some games were meant to run on 320x200 or 640x400 instead of the more typical 320x240 and 640x480.
