![]() Don't know where it goes wrong, honnestly.
When I'll be at home I'll give it a go on my ol'P1 in MSDos.22 Can be it's a memory/speed/whatever problem. Can be anything. Funny thing is that it runs fine in dosbox 0.72, default config. Dosbox seems to be more dosgames compatible ourdays than MSDos ever was, says much about the good work the dosboxdevs have done.

![]() Thanks for responding, but how frustrating is this. I can start the game and get all the way through the intro and tyhen when it goes to the name screen (I think that's next), it freezes! ARGH! If anyone else has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. It'll only run with a "-si" switch (PC speaker) even though I have a SB16. Thanks again.

![]() Tested the abandonia version on my ol'P1 100, 64MB, S3, SB-ISA.
No problems, EMS or NOEMS. No switches needed. So, or your material is the problem, or: Try the AB version I would say.

I tried the AB version with no better results. I did try the "-sa" switch (for Adlib) and all of a sudden I got music and sounds through the soundcard/speakers??? This is a CT2260 Soundblaster Vibra 16 card?! Anyhow, as please as I was with the music and all, it still froze after the intro. Sad I be. If anyone has gotten this to work on a newer system, or know what my problem might be, please advise. Thanks for your help and time again dosraider. I really appreciate it. :cheesy: |

![]() Wasn't much of a help, as it didn't work out afterall.
Also did a try run on a P2/ 333MHz/ 128MB/ S3Virge/ SB16 PNP/ W98SE, restart-> dosmode, ran fine, with sound through the speakers. Maybe you could try the same and see what it gives? That's 'bout it for me I guess. At least my grandkids are happy that they can give that game a run.

![]() Dosraider/Those Who Care,
Guess what, I pulled the sound card and everything works fine!?! WTF?! I need an ISA soundcard for other games, so I need to figure this one out! I tried another card, the game worked fine, but sound was through the PC speaker (it didn't freeze this time). Problem is that the MPU401 Midi port was stuck at 300 instead of 330 (the usualy default) and I couldn't figure out how to change it back. Of course this CT2890 card is OEM! ARGH! Any ideas? I then tried a CT4170 fully PNP ISA card and had similar issues. I am having a hard time figuring out how to change the default settings of the fully PNP card. I tried some CTCM and CTCU programs I found with driver supposedly for DOS and Win 3.1. I need to fiddle with them more. Any ideas on this front? Same with this card, the MPU401 Midi wants port 300 by default, which some of my games hate and I can't figure out how to change either the game, or the card (most install progs only ask for IRQ and DMA). If I try to set to 330 in the CTCU, or diagnose, it fails. I tried ON with this card and it locked same place although I had speaker sound. Sheesh! I am making progress though! Can you help me out by telling me your configs? IRQ, DMAs, all port values, etc. Also, what autoexec.bat and config.sys statements you are using to set the sound, etc. Also, what kind of SB16 do you have? What's the CT model #? Any other help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!! |

![]() In my P2:
Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 Pro CSP CT2910 ISA IRQ 5 DMA 1 HDMA 3 A 220 Port 330 Joystick adr 0201 Autoexec: set blaster=A220 I5 D1 H3 P330 T6 IDE interface disabled. Though I wonder what's the use for you, knowing my settings .....

![]() Good news. Everything is working now. I found utilities called "ctcu" and "ctcm" for the PNP SB16 CT4170 (and others) sound card that let me set the blaster environment myself (found in a DOS driver package for Windows 3.1/DOS 6.22 called "ctcmbbs.exe"). Then, on pure accident, I changed what I believe is the music port from 330 to 300 and it started working just fine! I have SB sound and can toggle to PC speaker with no issues what-so-ever. All of the games that I have tested so far are working fine aside from One Must Fall 2097 (always a pain). I can play it, but when I exit the game, I never get back to the prompt only a blinking cursor.
Anyways, thanks for all of your help!! |

![]() I had this exact same problem.
HOWEVER. The wireless card had recently been acting up, so I reinstalled EVERY DRIVER ON THE COMPUTER from the original cd. But, the sound codec was not installed. I DL'ed this game, played it for a few seconds, then decided, screw it I want sound. (This is all in the one night.) I got the sound codec, and then I got this exact problem. Three keystrokes before a freeze on one setting, instafreeze on the other setting. I then tried disabling the audio codec, restarting the computer, and hey presto! It worked! ^Things like this do not happen by sheer coincidence. My accidental tinkerings helped me help you play ON. So basically, go My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager, and disable any sound codecs or drivers. Then run ON with no special shortcuts. |
