Use a hex editor if it's not a plain textfile? I think we should write a hex editor tutorial as well...

Write down how much money you have in that savegame.
Convert that to a hexadecimal value. Search that in the save file. If no results, reverse order of bytes (every two characters = byte, so 12 34 56 78 90 becomes 90 78 56 34 12).
