That's a question of definition. You can play the game in DOSBox, and DOSBox can be run in a windowed mode. The game itself still runs fullscreen, since DOSBox is its environment (screen), but because of the command structure it runs practically windowed.

I managed to install DS2 under win 3.1 that is running under dosbox.
My iso is not the ripped version. When I am under 3.1 i can play the .avi outside the game, but when I start the game (in windows 3.1) I get an error loading avi message. Then the game goes on playing without the cutscenes (giving me the error msg every time). Anyone has a solution for this? I can run the game under vista using the compatibility mode, but then I have to play it full screen which I would like to avoid. |

Will give it a try as well. But keep in mind that I can play the avi's when I am in windows 3.1 and I access the game's folder. The avis just won't play when I actually run the game and the game tries to load them

I am using the S3 drivers for my win 3.1 installations. Tried with generic VGA drivers but not luck. I tried all resolutions and bit depth for both drivers.
Also, keep in mind that I can play the .avi within the win 3.1 instalation if i click the files in the gamers installation folder. It's just that the avis will not run within the game. |

I’ve recently managed to get the full Dark Seed II (incl. cut screen) game running in DosBox with Windows 3.11.
I use the S3 864 1.41B5 640x480 256 colors graphics driver, but there’s a conflict between that S3 driver and the Indeo 3.2 video software that Dark Seed II installs (included in Video for Windows 1.1e). It is causing the game/DosBox to crash when playing some of the cut screens – not necessarily every cut screen. The solution is fairly simple: Get a not so buggy version of Video for Windows 1.1e and install it, so that it replaces the one from Dark Seed II. Here’s a great guide on how to install Windows 3.11 on DosBox by Dominus: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=9405 There's a link to a working version of Video for Windows 1.1e i that guide. By the way: No matter what I did, Dark Seed II wouldn’t run in Windows XP Pro SP3. But it runs OK in DosBox with Windows 3.11 |
