Thanks for the link to the download!

By any chance would you also have the link to the decode.exe fix that is mention on HOTU?

I've given this download a try and looks like it needs this fix also and the HOTU site's download is down.

Thanks

Hi Luchsen,

Did you have any luck finding the decode.exe fix?

Thanks

hi everybody,

i'm here again with the 'save' thing hoping to help someone.

i'm an osx user and to play dos games i use a program called Boxer. now, i've tried all the save-problem solutions i've found here but none of them worked for me, i was able to save (because the save file was in the correct folder) but unable to load because the list was empty. but i've found a solution that worked for me.

i have a copy of this game that is an ISO of the cd (i don't think is the same version that is here) so i made a fresh new install from the cd. then tired of the can't-save thing i look inside the two main EXE with an hex editor and find out that the program search the save folder inside a folder called C:\DISCWLD.CD so i created it and put inside it the save folder and now i can save and load and also the game itself saved the configuration file inside that folder.

hope that this can help some other boxer user to solve this problem

bye

I'm one of the lucky ones who bought the original CD version of the game when it was still new, and I still sometimes get the game out for a run through. This means I'm lucky enough to have the entire sound set with voices and can save and load games perfectly. What I can confirm with my copy of the game is what n1k4r0 discovered above. The CD version of the game creates the folder C:\DISCWLD.CD with a SAVE subfolder. Not only that, all the sound drivers are copied from the CD into that folder, and this is where there is a bit of a problem. If you try and run the game in dosbox, it won't install correctly. Whilst I am not sure, I think the setup program uses the dos XCOPY command to copy the drivers to the hard disc, but that command is not implemented in dosbox. At any rate, it tries to do something that dosbox does not like.

There is a simple workaround. After installing the game, exit it and then copy the contents of the DRIVERS folder on the CD to the DISCWLD.CD folder, then run CONFIG from that folder to set up the sound, then start the game again. This time the sound will work. Please note that this ONLY applies to the CD version of the game. If you havethe floppy based version of the game (from here) the fix does not apply as the install program copies everything to the correct place without needing dos commands
