David, try Redux: Attempts to make things both harder and more believable.

Well, now I'm going to start the game again with all new patches, I hope more than 90% of bugs will disappear.
I'm reading about Redux now, it seems cool...but maybe a bit too hard...thanks, definitely I'm gonna try it!! >

Well they are still working on it
STALKER Patches: they solved some common problems like "the Joker's mission" and several bugs.

Nice. I should try loading it up again. The atmosphere in that game was great. It made me go search out info about the real Chernobyl

If you missed some secrets or items...
SPOILER: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (Map of the Zone)
It's a nice map, but there aren't all secrets inside. Use it with caution.

Edit: Finally I killed The Poker! He had a unique Spas and he was under Agroprom

I think this game seems to be RAM hungry, since I cannot seem to play this game on anything but static lighting and medium graphics. In another post it was said that I should be able to run Crysis on medium fine, so my question is... why can't I run this game well? I have the retail copy and it is patched to the highest version. I've also noticed that my game freezes my pc when I try to play multiplayer. It says connecting to server and my pc just freezes completely.

Yeah...it's a common problem, it's impossible to run it without these "freeze moments" even with 2Gb of RAM, it's a problem of optimization and prefetch.
With the 1.0004 patch the game has been improved, but they weren't able to solve this.
I hope they will do something...soon.

STALKER was released too early and too late...you know what I mean, I heard about it the first time about 4 years ago and it has Half Life II Engine...they didn't release it at the right moment.
I said too early because they weren't able to solve bugs and those kind of problems in time.

It's a brilliant game, but I have to admit that has several problems.
I'm still playing it

About the game, I've found this great site full of informations (the best source around the net IMO):
SPOILER: The Zone Survival Guide

Let's talk about the Inventory, what's your ideal equipment?
I'm at the Army Warehouses, so I still don't have found Gauss and FT200M, mine is:

- Military Armoured Suit or Seva (the second is cheaper!)
- TRs 301 with Silencer, Grenade launcher and sight/ Shotgun SPSA
- 2x Night Stars and Mama's Beads (I dunno why but this time I've found only one ), 2xSouls, 4xCrystals, 2x Kolobok, Moonlight

Sometimes I like to change and try other

Heh at least you got the medium setting to work. i seem to have everything on low and the thing i dont' understand is why the game doesnt' allow me to have higher settings. i mean if i want to have slideshow that's my decisions not games.

so even with 256MB Radeon 9600 graphics card, 2 GB ram i play it on static and low settings. but thats ok. at least i don't have any crashes like that. and game still looks good to me.

currently i haven't got it installed. reason is my last computer crash. i am still testing the computer. roumour is that STALKEr does some changes to your default directx files. could that be the cause ?!?! more likelly it was a faulty wire running from disk to motherboard but one can never be sure. still so far so good.

anyway my first config was that silenced sniper rifle (for the pesky snipers) and ge37 as "backup"...

however later on my second run through i decided to keep the sniper rifle and good ge37 in stash and go arround with pistol only. then i used whatever i could find. with extreeme use of ammo and that made it fun. i mean i was doing unnecessary full auto long bursts. even on long distances. since there is plenty of ammo in original game that wasn't realy a problem. and i was also lobing grenades a lot more because i knew i would find new ones eventually.

not surprisingly that king of configuration made plenty space for collecting things. which i then sold. even the unique ones. i mean what's the point in having those if you are not using them anyway... since later i decided i actually don't need any money (special items to finish them game were already stashed) i decided to pick a lot of good weapons (Obokan, Shotguns, TRs etc.) and equip loner stalker with them. especially the ones in Garbage. i thought they will need it.

anyone noticed how NPC have somehow an unlimited amount of ammo?

My regular Redux loadout:
- Explorer's suit.
- Sig550, with scope and silencer.
- Beretta 92FS, with silencer.
- 400 rounds minimum 5.56x45 mm.
- 150 rounds minimum 9x19 mm.
- 3 RGD-5 grenades, 2 F1 grenades.
- DA-2 detector. Small radius; very precise and few false warnings. Cheap, too.
- 5 Tourist Delights, 5 Meat Stews.
- 5 bandages, 5 FAK's, 5 antirad.
- Artifacts vary. Currently: 1 spring, 3 moonlight, 1 crystal (in inventory). Moonlight is standard filler, and I always carry a spare crystal or two in my inventory.
A rather heavy loadout, but much of it will be consumed during a raid, or is disposable.

Been a while since I played vanilla, but iirc there wasn't much reason to put a lot of thought into your equipment.

No, it doesn't. It uses the x-ray engine, custom made by GSC.

True. This can be changed, but that bugs out the AI; they AI isn't of much use when out of ammo

Yeah, I see, but I can't imagine enemies without ammo, they could run away or try to kill you with a knife LOL
