If I remember correctly the lab was near Pripyat entrance, where Duty and Freedom Engage the last big battle, near some dead scientist. Are we talking about the same?[/b]
Yes, we are.

And I wouldn't count on those strategy parts too much. I suspect it will be quite basic :P

I love stalker for such a fun and enjoyable situations... something you really miss in other games. Often resulting in leting you relax, with a group of guys, by the campfire... those are good moments.

i like it because it's a bit unpredictable. only thing is there is too many enemies and not enough allies....

About allies, Duty and Freedom factions can be both friendly at the same time, if you help them the game will be quite easy at Pripyat.
They will fight with you to defeat Monolith soldiers k:

I love STALKER, but have been having issues with it. It's a game with a lot of promise. There are some serious problems with execution, though. Since the beginning I have been having technical problems from low frame rates to long load times to inexplicable crashing. Then there are gameplay gripes such as the armor and weapons degradation system and the too-short time limits on quests. And the amount of money you have by mid-game is ridiculous.

Also, while I love that there is a dynamic environment, it can be a bit too dynamic. I find myself saving some guys and then coming back a little bit later to find them all slaughtered anyway. Then I ran into one wild circumstance in which I entered an area and found something like 20 mutant dogs spawning right at my feet.

There are some really good mods out there for the game. However, finding the combination of mods which fixes issues without making the game too easy or too hard is a challenge.

The concept and atmosphere are wonderful. Graphics are beautiful. And the underground areas are incredibly creepy. So overall, I love it. Hopefully more patches will adjust game balance or someone will release a sufficiently balanced mod package.

heh it seems the game gives problems to people with higher end graphics card and dual core processors. kind of reminds me of that vodoo era when only people with advanced graphics card had problems playing the games... well until later when they fixed the stuff.

i dont' mind the weapon degradation. new weapons are sao easy to find or buy so you can just throw away the old/used one. at least that way you play with more weapons instead of just one. if i am not mistaking weapon degradation is a classic in RPG (just look at for example ultima underworld...). indeed you can not repair them here (without a mod). but that's ok cause there is so many different weapons and you can only use one at a time anyway. so i just throw them away and get a new one. or i give the old one to some loner stalker.
of course the problems are unique weapons, but as it turns out they are not really all that special. if you use single shot on Streloks fast shooting AK it wont' be much different than on normal one.

Well they are still working on it
STALKER Patches: they solved some common problems like "the Joker's mission" and several bugs.

There is also something called Bardak's mod which is an attempt to repair the remaining issues. from what i heard it works good - i.e. it really repairs some annoying issues.

Personally I consider some Mods like cheats, for example there are some that allow you to buy strong weapons and Ammo at Cordon (poor dogs and wild boars ), but other are borned to fix some bugs or to increase game reality (armour degradation, improved stealth AI...)
Btw before play with mods remember to do a backup of your savegames, even with official patches your saves will be non-compatible...

A question to hard players: did you find any silencer without mods or cheats? (not talking about unique weapons)

SPOILER: Silencer

David, try Redux: Attempts to make things both harder and more believable.
