Does anyone have any ideas how to start out, cause I haven't a clue on how to start, except for following the manual quick tutorial instructions.

That's my standard beginning:

Choose your Instructors: cheapest pilot, medium scientific and builder, no fighter for now.
Research sats and mining droids. Deploy Sats. Research and build a Sat Carrier. Deploy sats throughout the whole system. Research everything that will be offered. Build at least one Transfer Ship.
The first part of the game is mostly about money. Colonization is pretty expensive.
First colony IMO should be Mir (place a miner station there before colonizing), second should be Penelope (again use a miner station before building a colony). (You have to "discover" both of them though)
Take care of your colonists. In this thread you can find a post about the infrastructure and its relation to population. You must build in advance, if you get messages about lack of food or housing, you already lost thousands of colonists and their taxes.
If you discovered Jade send your Transfer Ship. This will trigger the main storyline of the first part. The race is on ;-)))

I'd really like to play this game again, 1 decade later, buuuut, it crashes in dosbox just after the logo screen :/

Setup was ran normally and according to the values in dosbox so I donno what to do :/ Any tips?

If you have Windows XP, you can use

rightclick 'START.EXE' and choose Properties.
You should select de memory tab.
Set your "EMS" memory at '1024''

ans start de Start.exe from your normal windows environment.
(Still can't find how to fix the sound though)
