The newest copy of gameinformer has a interview with mr Lowenstein (owner of ESA) and that is exactly what he said. Preserving free speach

And by the way I wasn't talking about kids I was talking about completly banning the games from being sold.

Ok, so, they support free speech, doesn't mean they support M rated games.

...wow, of course you weren't talking about kids, but if a game is "harmful to children" and the Esa is about "positive programs and opportunities that will make a difference in the quality of life, health, and welfare of America's youth" then I'm guessing that thats going to have an influence on M rated games don't you? Lets see, some 7 year old is sitting tehr bashing in a hookers head with a baseball bat, "we don't care! we're not talking about kids!"

yeah yeah, sure.

Piggy, join tha argument, you knwo you want to :bleh:

There are always two sides or more to an issue.. the trouth is usualy somewhere in the middle..

Freedom of speach? Umm.. yeah... right.. And i'm Saddam Husein.

They are an organication that are there for protecting the works of theire sponsors.

They use nice arguments to back theire cause... and they want to change ppls oppinion in theire favor.

On the other side is the file-share-ppl who think everything should be free and open-source, and they to call on the Freedom of speach-arguement.

So. Abandonia is on neither side with them.

Joe Lieberman spearheaded the congressional hearings on violence in videogames in the early-mid 90s. Remember the big ruckus over the Mortal Kombat games? The IDSA (now known as the ESA) was the industry organization that took on that disaster and comprimised with the goverment in the creation of the ESRB. Punch didn't really impress upon me that he fully knew what the hell he was quoting, but the ESA is an important organization in this regard.

Look at it from a different angle, since there was a nearly identical situation in a different industry around the same time: the music industry. The loathed RIAA went the exact same route in comprimising with congress during the PMRC fiasco and implementing the parental advisory sticker. Sure, it's still border-line unconsitutional in the way it's encouraged, but it has remained strictly voluntary and there is no federal legislation based upon the presence of the sticker.

How about everybody accepts that Abandonia has to follow ESA's rules or they go to court and are completely raped of all money and priviledges sound good enough?

My God, some of you guys can't spell! It's rather hard to understand what you're trying to say! Not even "speech"? Oh man! I know.. I don't have the right to whine, but damn! You're all arguing about how the ESA is a "good" company (or otherwise), and it seems that you all have a decent vocabulary, but man, the spelling.. The horror! The horror!

Edit: There is no UP when there is no DOWN.
