Try downloading a dos box http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1 you'll have to learn how it works though. |

DOSBox has really made the game run like a champ for the most part on both my Windows ME and my friend's Windows XP Home edition.
Thanks for the tip! Without any modifications to the DOSBox configuration, I had a broken sound problem on both computers, but I have that figured out. I set frameskip=3 in the [render] section of the configfile. That solved the entire sound issue for me. Neat thing about DOSBox, I can run Scorched Earth in the 320x200 or 320x240 resolution and really get a good large view of the graphics and print. I don't get those big round explosions with a bright center and darker outsides as with the higher resolutions, but instead I get the much more colorful explosions! I have an icon on my desktop that runs Scorched Earth in DOSBox and when I exit the program I close DOSBox along with it. Had to add commands to the autoexec portion of the configfile to achieve this goal because I can't thus far get it to accept commands from the Windows command line to load with a selected configfile. Neat, too: I can play music in Winamp while listening to bombs bursting in air in Scorched Earth! Ever try that on a dos box before?? |

The year you have listed for this game is 1995... I remember playing this game (almost nightly) on an old IBM 286... that was way before 95, prolly closer to 89-90.

Have you got enough numbers of players?
All you need in this game is some big missiles - You can take out any amount of opponents with just this. The rest is just for fun and trying to take out more than one guy at a time...Well thats what I think. |
