IMHO i THINK he realy excisted, but was just another prophet, like thousands of other around that time, but good marketing made him populare, and his PR-crew saw to that he did "miracles".

You're right, there were many people claiming to be prophets in this time (under Roman rule, in poverty), Jesus stood out because he did have a position of power as a rabbi and scholar.

I hope you don't mind me replying to a question with another question. How does evolution explain the fact that, after all these years, the skin of all creatures on earth is still slowly being corroded by oxygen. Oxygen is slowly destroying us all, and it has been doing that since the beginning of... oxygen.
Wouldn't evolution have solved this by now?
On that same note: if you are a creationist, why did The Creator allow it to be so?

About the Jesus issue, I ask every Christian, if a new "Son of God" would appear, and he also would do many miracles, and ask for reform of the church, would you believe him, if the church authorities would deny his "holyness"? I don't think so, because we would try to find rational answers to his miracles, people 2000 years ago didn't need that, they were poor, uneducated, and easy to deceive, and as a most important thing they needed a messiah...
And maybe the Christianity would remain a small sect if Roman Emperor(not sure which one) wouldn't have made it legal, and later another emperor who made it the 'only' legal religion...
So any religion is basically used at first to give people some hope, meaning, but can also be misused to control them, I think atheism is just another part of human evolution, were there atheist when people were uneducated and didn't understand a world around them? NO

That's not true, there were about 3 'prophets' in Juda?sm that questioned the existance of G'd. When G'd spoke to Jonah in a dream (Jonah from Jonah and the Whale) Jonah believed he was going insane and blaimed the teachings of his father (who he shunned because he hated the religiousness of his father) Jonah decided to run away, probably to greece where he hoped to find rationalism...

If Atheism is going to be shovled down our throats like religion was a few centuries ago, count me out! if there is one freedom I wish to preserve it's the freedom to believe what I want to believe.

Thats about the same argument christians used to convince people from other religions to convert. It is "the next step"

Ironic, Atheism tries so hard to distance itself from the organized religions and the gods they hate so much, they start to sound like medieval priests themselves.

And they were educated, there were much less atheists.
No one is opposing your religion, I think we all have much to learn from every religion, but that basically the religion is not-respected these days(everyone is interpreting it their own way, mostly they use it when it's useful to them), and by that religion has lost it's power, most people don't reffer to religion on all of their moral questions, some they answer by themselves, and by that they are acting much as atheists are...

Care to explain that statement? (Oxygen eroding...)

Well everybody knows that oxygen burns when exposed to it in large quantities. However even the way we perceive it now around us, it burns and corrodes our skin (much like rust), now it has this effect on pretty much every creature, so wouldn't evolution have made the creatures adapted to their surroundings (oxygen) so that it wouldn't be toxic?

It would take a long time to die because of this effect, people die of old age, starvation or being eaten long before they feel the effeects of this. Therefore, there is no evolutionary pressure to develop resistance to this, somebody with this resistance would still die of old age or whatever before it became useful. With life span increasing as it is, we will eventually live to be old enough to be harmed by this effect. At that point, anyone who is resistant will have an advantage and so this advantage will be passed on (if, of course, that person can still have children at their extremely old age). That's the way evolution works, advantages are only passed on to the next generation when they are useful.

Nice answer, Havell! I learned about this in biology......didn't think of what you were saying, though. Natural selection. I should have known. k:
