Just a news for the (many) fans of the Ufo series: as you can see here they're are making a new sequel!

I have Aftershock and its not bad at all. I not sure that I will want this one, it doesn't have the same charm and atmosphere + the research and manufacturing is very long.
eg: if you want to make a shotgun you must:
research human weapons then
firearms then
shotguns
Then you can manufacture it.
(each research item is equivilent to waiting and completing around 3 missions and the timing is longer than UFO: alien defence)

I managed to play Aftershock demo for a while and I was shocked. The battle system they use works really really bad.
It is supposed to be an improvement for less clicks over the turn base game, instead I found it more annoying, more clicks and less accurate than the turn based games.
Since they have decided to *meep* the turn based gaming (some companies, not all), at least make it full real time instead of this monstrosity.

I bought Aftermath, got bored by it about three quarters of the way through - the difficulty jumps around in an irritating way, so it's dull for ages then suddenly hard, the combat does indeed require more effort than it did as TBS, the pathfinding/level design is terrible and repetitive, and the plot starts out promising but quickly descends into cliches. I tried the Aftershock demo and they didn't seem to have changed any of that from what I could see.

I have Aftermath myself too and I must say that I really wasted money on that game. For all the arguments already mentionned above and by the fact that it take so long to complete a single mission by planning all your soldiers that the simpliest mission take age in comparison to what it really give out to you.

I never managed to play it past about half the game... Too boring. So, I am really not looking at the sequel of that game. Not to say that it has absolutly nothing related to UFO: Ennemy Unknown! That's a promotion ripoff and I hate those.

Aftermatch, Aftershock, Afterlight. Well aren't they original.
They need to play Ufo 1 and 2 again and make a real ufo game with less pretty 3d stuff. Simplicity and gameplay that's what they need to make.

Nah, they should avoid that issue by just stopping starting the games.

Afterlight..... My opinion.

I am not sure that it is worth the money at the moment but its better than aftershock and aftermath.
When I first started playing with it the interface confused the hell out of me and thats a good thing. I like a bit of a learning curve.
Once you have worked out how to organise your people into different departments where they can do the most good (which is a constant juggling act) the game becomes fun.
Training is a bit of a stab in the dark but I am sure I will work it out later in the game.
Production is a must and if you have no-one assigned to making ammo you will soon run out.
The bit I haven't quite worked out yet is research, my problem is that I have not got a technology tree to work too but I guess that keeps you thinking about what the technology will lead too???
The tactical battles are beautiful! and varied. I have been playing for about 8 hours now and the battle scapes are different for each area, as are the insertion points. The MOBs are pretty nasty too.
I can't see that there are many indoor scenarios??
I am enjoying this game (fingers crossed that the don't FUBAR the middle/ending)
