It is a good thing overall, too, because you now have a fresh, disencumbered Windows which will be running fast for few months yet before it gets cluttered by many installed programs and gets slowed down again

But you can also keep it tolerable later by uninstalling games / programs again which you don't need anymore. Installing them is fast, and without them Windows' load times are faster.
If your Windows XP is taking some time by the way to turn off computer or to restart, you can help that if you have just some basic knowledge of the Registry Editor.
Start - Run - type in
regedit. Open the folder - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control. If it isn't there, open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l instead. On the right part of the window double-click on entry
WaitToKillServiceTimeOut. It should have 20000 standing as value, change it to
1.
After that close all folders, and open the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Desktop. Right-click in the right window part on entry AutoEndTask. Enter as value the
1 and close the window with OK.
That's all you have to do, and Windows will now turn off really fast.
