Unknow game from the 90's... [Archive]

Hello everybody!
I landed here in a attempt to find a old game, no one on any italian forum seems to remember it and i'm starting to think that it didn't even exist!!

The protagonist was a...white square, and squares were the enemies, but they were differently coloured depending on the type of enemy the were (i seem to remember blue, green, red ones...and then bloodworms made of red circles).

He could pick up ammos, weapons, dynamite, keys...

The levels were built up with coloured squares, i remember a lot of blue and red; and they were quite long, not in a single screen.

The vision was from the top, but you could see the protagonist and the enemies' faces frontally.

If this can help, i had installed it from a game compilation i bought around 1999, and it was a shareware.

Florianix was just joking - we have a quiz on the front page made from screenshots of games :D

I think that great picture would in fact be worth to post a reward for the identification of the game. ;)

Should be some more pieces of eight as for the "normal" quiz of course...

you know, this is the one that's more similar by now! the protagonist was not a man but a square, and the levels were a lot more brightly coloured and futuristic, but its quite similar!

It is probably some kind of clone similar to Chips Challenge.

I also seem to remember a very, very old game which worked in DOS way before Chips Challenge... The "hero" used the "man" character (which in modern fonts look like this:☺ ; but back then it looked exactly like a Dwarf Fortress dwarf without the beard) and I don't really remember what the game was about.

But that game was probably dated so far back that we could not add it anywhere else than in the now deceased crypt section of this site. I think I used to make it run either in Basica or as a standalone program on my old 286...

isn't a turn based game supposed to be a multiplayer game? i'm sorry but i'm very, very ignorant about videogames terminology! :whops:
you could pick dynamite up and then place it wherever you wanted, so that if a enemy got sufficiently near he would be killed. dynamite killed enemies in a small square around where it was placed.

Eagle, i don't think my game is so old.. the gaming structure and the graphics seemed to be a little more recent than in chip challenge, but of course i could be wrong: in the same compilation i had qix, which i think is from 1986...

i could easily find and run that game if i could find that compilation, but of course they are the only 2 cds missing from the box with my oooooold cds! grrrr!

they were very interesting indeed! and i think some of the games inside are quite rare and hard to find now.
they were 2 light brown discs, with light brown covers. i seem to remember that the installation menu structure was similar to the Twilights' one, if you ever had one of them:

So you dont remember the name of the compilation ? That will make the research much easier.

unfortunately not. i seemed to remember that it was "Twilight", but it seems that i was wrong! :dislike:

sorry expack, i didn't understand well, what should i write in the offers section? it's not very clear to me what's the aim of that section :blush:

indigesta, there is some misunderstanding. When you said about "Warcanoid, etc." Expack2 (just as me in first iteration) taken it as you have this games in hand, not missing it. :)

Anyway, marco river, Expack2 and now me very interested in your old CDs. So please, list what you have? :)

I, personally, especially interested in warez and any other game compilations, if you have it. :) There are often only place where obscure titles survived through ages. :)

Also, if you could remember anything about name of your game, I can search thru DOS-collection and my unsorted archives. :)
indeed there IS some misunderstanding, as i wrote they are only the titles i can remember from that compilation, if i had them in hand, i would also have the game i'm looking for :wall: it was one of the few game cds i had, the other were games for little kids, and i downloaded many from the internet :)

anyway i'm starting to think that the game had veeery little diffusion, as no one seems to recognize it and i haven't found it anywere :(

OK then, back to misunderstandings. We realize you don't have those 2 CDs anymore. But you said:

We understood that you have a box full of oooold CDs, not these specific 2 you're now looking for, but you still have lot of old games which are NOT downloaded from internet. So, we would like to know more about those old CDs.

Do you have a list of games you have on those CDs or could you make one? If there are too many games, you can start with few CDs. It is very likely that we can find some rare and lost games there... Even if we don't, it is well worth a shot.

If you don't have a lsit and feel it's too much to type them, you can also make screenshots of folders or perhaps games are printed on the CD covers so you could scan the covers... Anything that works :)

ok, sorry for my comprehension mistakes :ouch: when i wrote "my old cds", that meant all the cds from 15 year ago...so writing software, windows installation discs, and so on :smile2: i fear that i have not much to share, since most of my games on cd were not exactly games but things like educational softwares...
there are some Disney games and a few other things. anyway, if anyone is still interested, as soon as i get back home i'll post a complete list :)

thanks capo, unfortunately i have already checked all the twilight releases and none of them seems to be what i'm looking for, even if i seemed to remember that twilight was the title.
during my research i have also found a twilight release in my house (n.34) but it's ony the second cd so i can't even install games.

my cds had random software too, but they had much more games!

i think they were only in italian but i'm not sure, i tried to install Logical journey but it does not work, and the same happens for some others, so i can't even use an emulator...any tips? i think they all worked well on windows 95, and i'm on windows vista.

Uhhhh I don't think you'll mange to run it on vista, if anyone knows better I wish to hear how too. I play those games in XP. You can try running older version of windows from DOSbox or create virtual machine or something. I'm sure others already know what to do for old win games
i wish i still had xp! unfortunately it could not be installed on this pc :cry:
anyway i think i have to install the game before running it on dosbox, but i'm not an expert so if anyone can help... :)
