Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. profile
Acclaim was formed in 1987 in Delaware, USA, by Gregory Fischbach, and their productions focused on licensed titles - games that were based on comics, TV series and movies.
They have been involved with some of the greatest game titles in the past, like
the Mortal Kombat series and
Turok. However, Acclaim suffered hard in 2000, as the sales for many games were disastrous - leading to Acclaim loosing a lot of licenses, and ultimately to their claim for bankruptcy on September 1, 2004.
While they were active, Acclaim held the rights for Iguana Entertainment, Sculptured Software and Valiant Comics. All of whom took the fall with Acclaim in 2004.
In 2005, however, Howard Marks (a former Activision executive) bought the rights for the Acclaim name and its logo. He later formed Acclaim Games in 2006, stating that "Acclaim Games will be the first US major brand to bring some of the most successful online games in the world, specifically designed to meet the community and multiplayer experience that the 36 million U.S. tweens and the 41 million European tweens want."
No-one is quite sure what "tweens" are...
