Pac-Man (made in 1983) soon became a timeless classic. It has probably been ported to every known machine and has inspired numerous clones over the years. In fact it still does; just look at all the Flash games that are nothing more than Pac-Man clones.
The plot is very simple: You're a hungry little mouth-opening and pellet-gobbling circle being chased through a maze by four ghosts. Your goal is to gobble up all the pellets while avoiding the ghosts, unless you swallow a power-pellet first, which enables you to chomp up the ghosties too and send them back to the rectangle in the middle of the screen.
Every now and again a cherry or a strawberry will appear, which you can swallow for extra points. And that's about it.
The good thing is that the game starts off quite easy: the ghosts are slower than you are and they are moving about randomly and not actually chasing you (otherwise it would be too easy for them to corner you). You can also pass through the secret passage on the left and right borders of the maze - but then again, so can the ghosts.
The game allows you to play either with the keyboard or with a joystick, and the colour palette doesn't burn your eyes away, even though the game features only 4-colour CGA graphics. There are even sounds to the game (not many, but there are). So the game has everything a 1983 developer could have offered, I guess, and it's incredibly addictive.
Go ahead, download it, I dare you! You'll see that no matter how used you are to modern fancy 3D realer-than-real graphics and mind-blowing sound effects, this game will still be able to get you hooked!
