Here's yet another game I first played on Commodore 64. It was only later I found out that this game is the first ever PC game to feature the character of Sherlock Holmes. A part from Sherlock and naturally Watson, you will meet many actual people of that historical era (including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself).
You are Sherlock Holmes and you are traveling across the ocean on a luxurious steamboat. As always you are accompanied by Dr Watson, who keeps an account of your ventures. The good doctor is publishing the stories about you with Doyle as the publisher (at least in this game). Other famous people include Lawrence of Arabia, Houdini, Marks, etc.
Naturally if you are playing a role of such a famous detective as Sherlock Holmes, a terrible crime must take place. This is no exception, for a murder took place aboard the ship. Thus the story begins with you being woken up by a crewman, who wants you to follow him. You discover a corpse and the game is a foot.
If you look at the screenshots on your right you will undoubtedly say the graphic is horrible. It is true, this game features only 4 colors (CGA graphic), yet as this is a text based game, the graphics aren’t needed at all. You only need to input the commands to the computer and see what happens.
The computer does have an average range of orders it understands, although I preferred the C64 version. There the good doctor would punch your lights out if you said something obscene (such as: RAPE MRS RYAN).
For all who dislike this genre I suggest to avoid this game. I did include a walkthrough, but for the real enjoyment you should go through this interactive story and explore the ship. All old-school adventurers will have a blast playing this game.
Dear Abandonia visitors: We are a small team that runs one of the largest DOS Games websites in the world. We have only 3 members of staff, but serve 450,000 users and have outgoing costs like any other top site for example: our servers, power, rent, programs, and staff. Abandonia is something special. It is a library of old games for you to download. It is like an old gaming arcade with all the old games in their original format. Abandonia is a place where you can find great old games and have fun four hours and years. To protect our independence, we are dependent of our friends using the site. We run on donations averaging around 6 USD (5 Euro). If everyone reading this gave the price of a cup of coffee, our fundraiser would be made easier. If Abandonia is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online for another year. Please help us forget fundraising and get back to Abandonia.
