Space Quest: The Sarien Encounter was a test to see if Sierra could launch a second quest series on the market. Released the same year as King's Quest 3, it featured the anti-hero Roger Wilco. This guy was to become one of the biggest names in the adventure genre! Who would have guessed that this simple-minded, low-class janitor would achieve such a status:
And who would have thought that Sierra would remake him into VGA graphic in 1991?
Roger Wilco was aboard the spaceship Arcada, sleeping in a closet, when the Sariens attacked the ship. It is up to Roger to escape the ship alive, but this will require some quick wits and thinking. Something he is not good at. (Mopping floors do not require heavy thinking). It is up to you to help him survive and foil the plan of the Sariens in order to save everyone else.
Being released at the same time as the remake for Police Quest - In Pursuit of the Death Angel, it is by far the best of the two! The mini-quests are not as difficult as those in the other quest games and you get warnings (sometimes) to help you avoid death. The graphics is also better making the scenery in the game look astounding. The difference between the EGA and the VGA can not be described by mere words!
SQ1 also incorporates the use of weird and hilarious humour, which would set the standards for all Space Quest games to come. The humour can be resembled to that of Terry Pratchett (Discworld), but a closer fit would be Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy).
In other words: This game is worth playing! A LOT!

Dear Abandonia visitors: We are a small team that runs one of the largest DOS Games websites in the world. We have only 3 members of staff, but serve 450,000 users and have outgoing costs like any other top site for example: our servers, power, rent, programs, and staff. Abandonia is something special. It is a library of old games for you to download. It is like an old gaming arcade with all the old games in their original format. Abandonia is a place where you can find great old games and have fun four hours and years. To protect our independence, we are dependent of our friends using the site. We run on donations averaging around 6 USD (5 Euro). If everyone reading this gave the price of a cup of coffee, our fundraiser would be made easier. If Abandonia is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online for another year. Please help us forget fundraising and get back to Abandonia.
