This is too weird, so I require an explanation.

Last night, sometime around 1-2 am, there was strange flashes in the sky. It seemed to happen at random and it seemed to "come from somewhere", behind the trees. The flashes were bright and white and it felt like the whole sky was white in a fracture of second. Also, when I looked trough a window on the other side of the house, I could still see a little bit of the flashes in the sky.

Any idea what It could have been? It definetely not thunder, as there was no rumbling or any rain. What could have been so bright, that it lights up the whole sky?

Ball lightning.

Especially if there was some kind of electrical storm or if the sky was way cloudy.

This is either from things that make strange lights, or you have been taking narcotics.

Or, you have a mental disorder.
Or, your eyes are "broken".
Or, aliens are coming for you.

Seriously though, don't rule out the possibility that those lights might have been connected to an extraterrstrial activity. There've been so many cases of people seeing unidentified objects and subjects that it certainly makes you think if you read about it. Just because it's something that doesn't happen daily doesn't mean yet that it's not possible to happen.

Sometimes though there is lightning without any sound of thunder arriving, which usually means that it's very far away and not a very strong discharge. In the night it's still bright enough though to light everything up brightly even from that far away.
