You did. The point is that MS-DOS and PC-DOS are not the same, most DOS software was produced in mind with the former rather than the latter, and therefore it would be a good idea to check if the problem doesn't lie in your operating system.

After trying to work with the program a bit more I am beginning to think that somehow the software doesn't work correctly with my Soundblaster card (not the pro version). Is there any way I can tweek it to make it (my sound card) function correctly?

Is there any way I can tweek it to make it (my sound card) function correctly?

Did you try changing your sound card's IRQ? A misconfigured interrupt is the most common cause of this kind of issues.
