I think Frodo will protest for not including LotR
 @Lulu: Technically it's AD&D But yeah Dark Sun is a Campaign setting for AD&D. Same goes for Ravenloft, Al-Quadim, Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Spelljammer, Dragonlance, Eberron, Dragonstar and whatever the big machine called WotC (i liked TSR better) spews out. But I'm going

In fact, D&D is not a universe, but a rule system. There are settings for D&D, as our friend hunvagy gently enumerated them. So... D&D shouldn't be there, but one of its settings

I voted for Elder Scrolls, but I also like Might & Magic universe very much(because of Heroes).
Arcanum has a very good universe too, if you're not all about "series of games universe" in this poll. Recently I watched this movie Krull and I was absolutely astonished with the lore, characters and the world as-a-whole, would like to play it in a game very much.

This list is completely flawed in regard to the question... But since it been asked that we don't nitpick on the answers...
Close call between Dungeon & Dragon and Ultima. Dungeon & Dragon wins in the end though, because of its diversity. Close third with Might and Magic. It is only because Might and Magic feel so superficial and empty though, something that the older D&D games managed to overcome by giving out huge story books manuals along with the games (which were also incidentally used as a copy protection mechanism). I really can't understand how come Final Fantasy is in this list. Final Fantasy is infamous for never having a sequel using the same world twice... Hard to talk about a distinct world then. |
