so i found this game on the underdogs and thought it would be cool. Full version, direct x 6 compatible, and free. I really loved Blood 1 and wanted this one bad. Was also planning on reviewing it and keeping it at the ready in case Kosta will let me in the future after yet another server upgrade.
So anyway, i downloaded all 111 megs (wow) of it and unzipped. Really nice self extracting archive. Installed, clicked on the icon to laucnh. Up came the launcher and i clicked launch....it hangs a sec, and then i get the error seen below. Please help, I'm dieing to play this!!!! |

i have the cd, so i tried to remember if i got it to run on xp. i think i did.
anyway it wont run with a fresh install, i think if you have the latest patched version (2.1) its possible to coax it to run. but like i mentioned, youre in for a great disappointment if you're expecting it to be a worthy sequel. |

patched my retail cd version up to v 2.1 and it works completely fine on xp sp1.
dont even need to put the compatibility mode on. i suspect that its the no-cd crack (or whatever) in your downloaded copy. im sure you can find a copy on ebay for like 99 cents or something. it sucks.. |

Taken by itself, its an alright game. I liked the artist who did the character designs. His artwork that the 3d models are based off, are pretty awesome. I even emailed the artist and he wrote back with some nice replies. I even bought the strategy book so I could get the artist pencil sketches.
As a game, Blood2 didn't do so well because compared to the original blood 1 games and expansions, it lost a lot of the b-movie/campy atmosphere that made the Blood 1 games enjoyable. There's not as much gore and the grisly humor is sort of lost or muddled. So for fans of Blood 1, Blood 2 was kind of a letdown, plus it was needed a lot of CPU horsepower at the time to play, and also since it was a fully 3d game (unlike the pseudo 3d of the Duke3d/Build engine used for Blood 1), it was a bit lackluster in comparison to the big 3d hits at the time. Namely Quake II and Half-life. However, since horror themed FPS games are rare and few, and I'm a big fan of horro games, I enjoyed it. I even made some 3d models and tried making some levels with the lithtech engine. But yeah, definitely Blood 1 was better. If you want a good horror FPS, if you haven't played it already, try Clive Barker's Undying. Lots of spooky atmosphere, interesting story and done with the Unreal 1 engine. |
