I'd say it's stupid.

Since there are already downloads.

well the point would probably be to get some games without any hassle and get some ka-ching for the abandonia, but getting money for the game that are not sold is somehow unethical in my opinion. and legaly even more offending than abandonware itself. we already have this "free-game-downloads.com" or whatever the link was, which we everybody hate, which steals material from other free sites, including games screenshots and reviews and sells the games in order to "pay for bandwidth". it's just filthy, shame on him

This would not only be unethical but also bound to get us in serious trouble with any copyright owners still in operation. Big no-no.

To offer any game in exchange for a fee require you to own the right to distribute the game.
We have NO rights what so ever to distribute any game at all...
Basicly we are doing non-profit piracy as it is.. The difference is that we do it w/o causing the copyrightowners any financial loss, by only providing games not sold by any retailer while releaving the game-companies of having to host the games and give techsupport for it.

How do you know we don't make money from this?
For starters, you are never required to pay for anything on the site, nor do we have any major ads that take up 30% of the screen.

Yeah, it seemed like it might be a bad idea, but I was mostly hoping there was some way that the people who run this site COULD get rewarded for providing us with so much joy, childhood memories, etc.

On that note: Is there any way to donate? :amused:

There is a PayPal donate option, but buried in the game download pages.
Click on any game download link, and under the "Get it" icon you'll see the donation link.

With increasing bandwidth speeds and lower costs of hosting, this may be unnecessary, but it might be nice if the owners of Abandonia could be rewarded for the great things they've done.
It would be better to host a torrent with all of games in it. Need help making it?
