Default Battle Chess sound ?

does anyone know how to make the sound work in battle chess on windows XP / Vista ?

Its not the same without the crunching of bones etc :laugh:

DOS or Windows version of the game?

If you're trying to run the Windows version of BC that you can get off of this site, you're SOL. The Windows version can't run with sound. It has something to do with the fact that it was made for Windows 3.1, and needs something that XP doesn't appear to have.

For the DOS version (any DOS version of the BC series really), you can just run it in DOSBox. DOSBox will handle the sounds just fine.

Not exactly. If you set up a separate directory for DOSBox to use as its C drive, you can install Windows 3.11 in DOSBox. At least in theory - didn't try it myself yet.
WARNING: DON'T DO THAT IF YOU MOUNTED YOUR SYSTEM PARTITION AS C DRIVE IN DOSBOX.
Otherwise you'll totally screw up your installed copy of Windows.
