I have like 10 floppys and the games I want to play, mainly one.

I can basically get any program, currently im using Windows XP and I would like to know how to make a disc to boot the video game when I restart.

Hi could you give us a bit more info. For a boot disk try the abandonia one.

Once you download it insert a blank floppy or one you a prepared to lose data of into your floppy drive which i assume you have as you mentioned a bood disk. If you have anewish sounfd blaster card you may need those drivers for sound. Then use the file to make your disk by clicking on it (the first file) and thjen if nessicary extract the sondblaster drivers to your boot disk. Get them here.

Hopefully you should now have a working boot disk. Also for the sound drivers i for got if they have the coding needed for loading already on the bootdisk. If they dont you will need to add the sound driver if you needed it to your config.sys and autoexec.bat . Right lastly dont forget to reply about how you go.

Well, the name 'boot disk' should be striking enough. You reboot you PC with this disk inserted in your disk-drive.
Don't forget to either change the boot order in your BIOS or to call up the boot-sequence-options during the boot-progress, some BIOSes provide that. However your PC must boot from the Diskette drive where the boot disk has to be inserted.
You boot directly to DOS that way.

If you have no clue what I'm talking about you should inform yourself thoroughly about all that, before posting any further.
Keep in mind: Google is you friend. And Wiki(pedia) knows almost everything.

I strongly suggest you use DosBox.

Basic Setup and Installation

Z instead of C at the command prompt
Internal Programs (important, especially MOUNT)
Most of the stuff in there is not really needed, but you would do best to familiarize yourself with the specific topics I linked to.
The mounting of your DosBox games directory, switching the promt to the emulated C: drive and clearing the screen from previous commands can all be executed from the [autoexec] section of dosbox.conf, so you won't have to re-type them every time round.
Frontend programs can help running DosBox with varying configurations for different games.
For both a more accessible user interface and oldschool feel, you can use Norton Commander (get it from our programs and utilities page - scroll down to the bottom to find it). NC might seem awkward at first, but in fact it is a very functional genuine DOS era file manager frontend. It has a plethora of functions that will help you in navigating around the directories, while still retaining the command prompt.

Though all of this might seem complicated, it's very easy once you get used to it. So remember:

i have dosbox installed, they need a step by step guide. I have boot discs my pc uses them when reboot but I have no idea how to play the game/put a game so it will boot when restarted.

You should use D-Fend with Dosbox. Its a frontend which helped me run my games easily. it has step by step instructions. Its on the Dosbox website.

The only games that boot after you reboot are booter-games (which I doubt you have).
You have a bootdisk; basically it reboots your computer in dos, from there you need to know DOS instructions.


Just use Dfend in combination with dosbox: it's for the DOS-challenged or lazy bastards (like me).

Still can't make it to work? Go to the library, find an old DOS book, good luck!
