Have any of you ever played Undying?
It's a game developed in something like 2000-2001 and it featured a horror setting along with a weapon/spell combo system that was quite interesting.
The story revolved around you as Patrick Galloway, having been saved from death by your friend Jeremiah Covenant in a strange encounter with several barbarians that seemed to have strange powers. After being exhiled from your homeland (this takes place in 1920 by the way) you receive a letter from your friend Jeremiah, urging you to come and help him with some problems in his estate.

Things turn out worse than you expected, with a strange curse lingering over the Covenant estate, and a terrible past history for all the siblings that have now gone missing, or presumed dead, yet seem to be sighted by all the manor's servants and groundskeepers.

The game had a very interesting system, it was quite dark, and the monsters and story was ingeniously well designed thanks to sir Clive Barker (a popular British author whos works mostly center around horror). One of it's coolest features was the "Scrye" ability, where you could use it anywhere, and you would be able to see events/sounds/images that had happened in the past.
The game worked with a spell system also, your left hand held a weapon (revolver, Tibetan War Cannon, shotgun, etc.) then your right hand cast spells (Skull Storm, Scrye, Ectoplasm) they respectively used left click and right click to maintain casting and shooting. There was a inventory system also, and many puzzles in the mix. What was so great about it that many puzzles required you to use Scrye to view other's mistakes, or see traps.
It was quite gory with the excellent Scythe weapon that could decapitate or mutilate enemies. And at times, it could make you want to hide away, cause it was so freakin' scary.

So... now that my rambling is done, as anyone else played Undying? Or at least heard of it?
It's quite hard to find a copy in stores currently, and even quite difficult to find one online, but if you have the opportunity, and you do not yet own this game, go ahead and by it, even if you don't like FPS games, there's something different about Undying.

Yeah, it really scares you when many other games fail to do so.
One of it's flaws was that only certain areas of the game were actually creepy, usually when you were in the Manor, Crypt, or any of the darker indoor areas.
Some areas failed to really get you pumping though, like the Monastary or most of the outdoor levels, and even some of the indoor levels (pirate cove) they were all quite fun though, and the areas that failed in their attempts to scare you were quite rare actually. (Even if you faced human enemies, looking around the corners and behind your back in dark areas was still quite terrifying)

What about underneath the monastery in the catacombs. Those skeletons were freaky jumping out at you in the dark.

It was fun, I got all the way through it when I borrowed it. That was one twisted family. (Remember the painter? Arthur Covenant, i think. That scared the crap out of me.)

I JUST LOVE THIS GAME !!!
It was 17th November 2003, at my birthday, when I received this game as a gift from my sister, It was probably the most scariest game I ever played, The story an Irish man comes to help an old friend, from the war, with a big house... a very big house, his siblings who died a few ages ago now are seen haunting the house and the estate... anyway... Few games impress me on their story and Undying is one of them.
Another thing that I loved were the weapons and the spells, very original, the spell that I loved was the Invoke spell who made the skeletons vanish and the Pirates comit suicide Oh yeah !

My favorite spell was Skull Storm.

It was funny to just watch the skulls float under your hand for awhile, as they slowly became more and more agitated until they were all spouting flames.

I hope you have luck in your search.
It's nearly impossible to find a copy, your best bet is a used bin at EBgames.
