Grrr... I've got the sound running in DOSBox, but it only plays the music, not the sound effects. I remember dropping glasses and hearing them break - is there any way I can get both the sound f/x and the music at the same time?

Found it! Just enable the PC Speaker sounds as well as Adlib and you can hear the music and sfx.

First of all, thanks to everyone who made playing this game possible. I'm a little older than you guys, but I remember trashing an entire summer playing Ultima 2 and screwing off instead of doing my homework when playing Ultima 3.

I never finished Ultima 5, but I got pretty far along. I can't remember much about it, but I've decided to pick things up with 6.

Anyway, I have an oldish, slowish machine (550 MHZ, 128M RAM) but everything seems to run fine...except that there are these annoying clicks and pops in the sound. Even if I slow the cycles down to almost nil or jack up the frameloss really high, I still get the little noises. Any idea how to deal with these?

Additionally, while the music is pretty cool, I know at some point in the future, I'm going to want to shut it off, but still hear the effects. Is there an easy way to do this (rename a bunch of music files or something?).

Thanks!

OK, sorry to spam, but I've done some troubleshooting...

No matter which sound setting I choose with the Ultima INSTALL program, I get the annoying clicking. Not all of the settings allow the music to play, but the sound effects always seem to work. The clicking is present in under all sound settings, however.

Doing a CTRL-Z in-game to turn off the sound makes the clicking stop.

I hope there's just something I can do within dosbox.conf to make the noise go away. It's driving me crazy!

(The good news is, I learned how to make the music go away if I don't want to hear it, but do want to heard the effects...just choose an incompatible sound setting!)

I've grown out of u6 i'm working on u7. the problem with u6 is i've gotten so far and done it so many times but never beaten it, i just find it boring to get that far again, plus however great u6 was its graphics suck compared to u7 and exult. and i know u6s graphics were so much better then previous ultimas it wasn't even a contest. i have them :ranting: my bipolor smilies

Actually, I also loved U6 more than U7. I dunno why exactly - the story was better in my opinion, and the graphics were just so cool for the time. Maybe 'cause I was younger?

I mean I used to play this game for hours and hours on end. No rest, no food, no water, nothing... U7 Didn't do that to me.

Funny though, I never finished it. I came real close, but never did.
I felt the same way you did. I played this game for years, and would reload and make new characters. Cheat, play virtuously, do alot of things. I still game on it from time to time. I prefer U6 waay much more over U7, partly because it was my first Ultima game. How I wish all games nowadays could be like this one..

Seems like no-one noticed this (Or responded, anyway) first time around. If you're still playing U6 you have to check this out, it's the complete game, fully solvable, but multiplayer online. They've just recently finished cloning every last thing from the original, and are now moving on to add homes for players, new spells and equipment, etc. Incredible work.
