![]() Hello. n00b here.
I just got this, and I was wondering if it was possible to download a manual of this game from somewhere? I used to play this all the time when I was a kid, but now I've forgotten how to do the important stuff (ie. Build a powerplant, highways, etc.) If not, can anyone tell me how to do the forementioned stuff? Any help would be appreciated |

- design plots according to the blue-green-yellow graphs on the left side of the screen: those tell you what type of plots is most wanted/needed at the moment. - for the road layouts I always started with a straight road with 2 rows of plots on either side of it - power plant: I seem to remember I started with a coal burning station, cheap but with a decent power output for early in the game. hydro power is a valuable alternative if you've got waterfalls nearby, but you'll need a lot of those to have the same power output. Later on switch to more powerful and less polluting power plants, once you've got the money... - connect your power plant with the first buildings that pop up (otherwise you'll see red lightning icons flash on those buildings, as an indicator that they are without power) It always took some time before anyone arrived at my city to live there, so there might be a faster way to attract people, something I overlooked. But at least this should get you started. By the way, I don't have the game with me right now, but isn't there a help function (like in some other sim games from that era)? You could quickly leaf through that as well.

I played around with it a bit, and worked out that you have to hold the mouse button on the icon and move off it and a list appers. Anyway, thanks for the tips. Much appreciated. As for the help option, it's pretty useless, so I was hoping there was a place where you could get game manuals. If I can find this game, surely I can find the manual..... |

![]() Now that is what I call the masterpiece!!! I saw the game for the first time 10 years ago! And, when I got it again 2 years ago, I realized the richness of SC2000! The laws, the people, the overall complexity... A MUST HAVE!!! Maybe the best game I EVER PLAYED |

![]() I'm kind of wondering if anyone else managed to get their city size over 9 million. My own record was 9m 170k, with all the land built up, including artificial resizing of the riverbed and coastline. Took me a while back in 2003 and I dug up my old save just a few days ago.

![]() I've been playing this game quite a bit recently, and my city is up to something like the year 2321, and I still can't figure out how to achieve a state of economical and financial harmony. It's so bad, in fact, the treasury is rarely more than about $800.

![]() You have the Ordinances to use - 1% Sales & Income taxes, Legalized Gambling (warning, this ups your crime rate) and Parking Fines.
Also in the Budget screen you can change the tax rates for each type of sector (Residential/Commercial/Industrial), and then there is that window from the tool pane where you can set different tax rates on different types of industries. Also, if you are severely lacking cash you can take out a bond. |

![]() The game isnt that hard is you play at easy levels. Or you can change the speed of game, so the few buckets that you hardly earn will become many.

The simple trick to a thriving city is to pay attention to these ratios Early on in the game (up to about 60000) 3 parts residential 2 parts industry 1 part commercial After this gradually switch it to 3 parts residential 2 parts commercial 1 part industry Use your city hall to see how close you are to achieving this, a little bit more than half residential doesn't hurt either. Apart from this you should always bear in mind that you need to have at least two zones present in any area to keep the area from dieing. You can get away with having residential and industry on opposite sides of your city as long as you have small strips of commercial alongside or inside your blocks to sustain them. Having perfect police, fire, education, hospitals, traffic etc isn't essential either, as long as they are 'adequate' your city can still thrive. It costs for example a huge amount of budget to have an 'excellent' police service and it simply isn't worth it until you are building archologies. |
