Does anyone know where I could get this game? I remember this game well, but sadly I was too young to understand English and the game itself so I never really got the full exeperience of it. Would be nice to try it again.

Production picked up again around 1986. Apparently, the game models the oil crisis by hitting production instead of demand.

The instructions for hex-editing are pretty straightforward. Try following them.
If you can't understand some portion, feel free to ask - I've been doing this kind of thing for a while and can help.

Sounds like you've set it too high and when the game tries to add your income, it can't handle that large a value.
Change offset 00020A to 7F and see if it helps.
