The new pirates! is Great too! The only thing I do not care much for is the dancing although it is funny to see yourself stumbling around while the Governer laughs at you. But it is very,Very good. I love it!

Unfortunately I have the same problem as Blank Box. By the time I get to the first port, where-ever it may be, I'm stuck with a screen with an empty box in it. This happens in both CGA and EGA modes.

I'm using DOSBox .65 on a PC with 855mhz. I'm not familier enough with DOSbox to use DOSbox.conf. Any help would be appreciated.

Have a look at the official FAQ on the DosBox site.

Dosbox.conf is explained there in detail.

The DOSBox homepage is down right now so I can't check, but I think that this game didn't run on v0.65, you need v0.63.

I'll give that a shot.

Edit: Works like a charm on DOSbox v.63. Thanks for your help!

Hey.........

Is everyone mad? How can Pirates be rated only 3.5!!!!!! by people on Adandonia?? It's all about gameplay not graphics or sound. I fear the PS2 generation probably will never understand what a great game is all about. I've played this on all systems, Amstrad CPC6128, Commodore Amiga, PC, Sega MD even a Tandy 1000!!! and it was always a belter of a game on all systems. The options open to what you can do in this game are huge and it is one of the few cherished games I still prefer to play on older systems.

ROCK ON 1660......English at war with the Spanish!!!!!!!

LOL

Oh yes, quite mad, a loaded lot of loonies, a bunch of berserk baboons, take a pick, for allowing people their own opinions :bleh:

The only remedy known to humanity is to join this dubious den of deranges dingos. Here you can do an effort to change the heathens' minds.

Ps. It is a brilliant game

A guest here, indeed, but a frequent one ...

Pirates! is simply the best game I ever played on my good old C-128. (I came over from the C-16 straight). It's been so long ... but thanks to Abandonia I enjoyed the Carribean flair once again tonight (I'm reading the Hornblower-series for background information to my own literary work ... it just seemed right to plunder some ships and ports meanwhile )

--

Really feeling stupid about this but I wonder if anyone ever reached 150 Pirate points? (Should be the maximum, I guess.) King's advisor starts at 100 but it still goes upwards - my old record was 147/150 (or was it 197 I wonder while I write this) which made me King's Advisor Duke. (If 147 doesn't reach this rank it was 197, I'm only certain about the rank and the "7" as the last number.) Trying real hard I never got nearly as high again, only in the 120+. Still perfect for being "the" Pirates! player at school at that time :brain:

--

I might get this information while checking Pirates Gold, but I miss the keyboard-commands for the sword-battles. Once I even won against 2:1 odds (yes, at swashbuckler-level), now I suck against equal opponents

The keyboard commands for sword battles in Pirates! Gold are all located on the number block on the left of the keyboard - it's the direction keys for straight directions and 7, 8, 1 and 3 for diagonal directions. 5 for parrying, I think, or maybe just walking backwards from the opponent makes you parry.

Thanks alot. This way it makes much more sense than using the direction keys

Just too bad the PC version is quite buggy. You get more than 320.000 gold pieces - Pirates! behaves funny, you sell a ship and have more men than your last galleon can carry - Pirates! behaves funny, you conquer a city a second time (the Dutch should have their first colony in the Carribean after all) - Pirates behaves ... well, I suppose the point is taken.
