![]() Und ich bin aus Deutschland!!!
Man, I really can't get how someone can just mention that somebody's spelling isn't geeky deeky perfect. I think it's more important that they understand what they're talking about... And even if they painted pictures to communicate... Don't blame anyone for his foreign-language grammar :not_ok:

![]() For the record, ESA are a trade association for games publishing companies in the US, they do lots of stuff, such as organising E3 every year and supporting ESRB (a commendable movement of self-regulation within gaming to minimise government intervention). Let's not forget that they also hold huge clout in the fight against censorship and regulation within games, also a commendable stance.
The one thing that everyone here holds agaisnt ESA is the Abandonware issue. An incredibly small amount of the ESA's resources are dedicated to this, as they have far more important things on their minds. However, the gaming companies act through the ESA and they fight against all forms of illegal distribution of games. In fact, considering that the ESA could have brought a team of lawyers down of Abandonia's head, as opposed to requesting the games be taken down, I do not think the ESA's actinos to be disproportionate. While I object to this action, I can understand their reasons and to hate the ESA and insult them at all possible oppotunities most certainly is not the response to take. The ESA itself is a registered charity within the US (so I was right earlier on in this thread), they themselves do not seek to make a profit, but act on the behalf of those who do; for this reason, they do not prosecute to the full extent of the law whenever they can, but take the gentlest action neccesary to put a stop to the activities. If it weren't for the ESA, and the companies handled this themselves, then chances are Abandonia would be facing a string of lawsuits from various companies and would not be around today. This is why you should be grateful to the ESA, they provide a buffer between the Abandonware sites (like us) and the companies. It would be a lot worse without the ESA. I'm not saying you shouldn't object to the games being taken off the site, but that ESA should most certainly not be the target of your hate. |
