Surely nobody plans to start smoking - wake up one morning and think "What shall I do today? Might start smoking, that'll fill the void. Plus it'll shorten my life so I won't have to decide what to do so many times before I die. Excellent!"? I think people tend to do it just to fit in with peers when they're teenagers more than anything else, and that, it has to be said, is one of the lamest reasons for doing anything known to man.

I have the occasional cigarette, usually if i'm stressed at or after work or if i've had a few drinks, and it's really a spliff substitute. Don't know why I do it really, it's entirely daft.

I think that it's more due to curiousity than anything else, that's the reason I'd start.

Not yet, but I'm sort of curious of what it's like. On the other hand, I get bronchitis every year and once had pluracy (near-fatal too) so it might not be a great idea.

Fair enough, that's what I had heard as well.

Should I bother trying it or not?

As a strong smoker, I always advise people around me to DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT STARTIN IT! I know, I know..."Who's talking?" right?... But I really mean it. I was a complete idiot to start smoking in the first place, now I cannot quit...
I really aprriciate the helpful comments here, I may be on road to quit now, but I'm the kind of man who needs encouraging to do hard tastks, its just me, sorry...

And the other non-smokers, who come here to tell us "Don't smoke, it's bad for your health/ Dont start it!" I say: We already know that, thank you, really!

But the ones who just here to annoy people, and brag about how good is to be non-smoking to us who wants to quit, they should really go elsewhere... <_<
I think I said that most mildly...
