Do you have to have some goal to live? What if there's no "distant, great noble goal"? Going to commit suicide because of that? If one is happy with his life he doesn't search for a goal or reason in life. Find something that makes you happy, and you have your meaning of life.

Nah, just because there's no prize attached to life, doesn't mean there's no opportunities. Snuffing one self sort of limits those opportunities, doesn't it?

It's simple evolution. Animals that don't feel the need to multiply die out. So today all we have left are animals that want to multiply.

The point of life is basically what you decide it to be. You could live, eat, sleep and bonk. But you could also devote yourself to a cause.

"It's better to die for something than to live for nothing."
Dunno who said it, but I think it was some WWII dude.

Anyway, since there's more and more people posting to say "there is no point in life whatsoever we are all here by mistake and when we die, there won't be a difference. period.", this isn't going anywhere.
Sorry, people, but you have to be open-minded to a certain point to be able to have a level-headed discussion about things like this. Just do yourself a favour and admit the possibility that you're actually supposed to be here, and have a point.

Sure it's a possibility, but the troubling bit here is that there are no indications it is so.

Uhmmm... well... I don't remember exactly...
but there are so many ones who don't want to reproduce... it's no more an human instinct in the developed society, so if evolution is the point of life seems to going to miss it...

Ok, probably I was in an altered mind state when I wrote that

You can find only what your mind is looking for, said the wise man

That's right!
I'd just appreciate if the people will be more conscious of his choices, more than how much I see around me...

About finding what you're looking for: The canals on Mars turned out to be nothing. "The eye is such a good pattern maker" and so is our brain. So just because we "recognize" something, does not mean it is real.

And just because we don't recognize something, it doesn't mean that it's not real
Luckily we are free to choose, even if it brings some necessary doubts...
Someone could make you see a real magic and you still can say "Very funny, even if it's just a trick!"

I think that the point of life is to choose, I hope you all will choose freely and wisely k:

If we don't recognize something, I'd say we're ignorant to the potential existence. Then it would be truly absurd to claim it exsists.

I have a question for he religious people here:
We die, and we go to either heaven or hell.
Then we'll go and live forever in heaven...?
What's the point in that?

Also, if there's a God, and he'll exist forever, what's the point in that?

Anyway, the way I see it, there are two options when we die:
- We stop existing, this seems somewhat unpleasent to me.

- We go to heaven to live forever ... now, I think "forever" is an awfull long time, with or without the 72 virgins some Muslim seem to get, so this option seems equally unpleasent..

It's a paradox ... one that sucks....
