That's it. Games used to be much simpler in the old days. Not like now when you have to be an octupuss just to move a character on screen.

I have a problems getting sound to run. I'm a noob when it comes to hardware configuring.
I did download D-Fend to try and configure it. Under the sound menu I have tons of options.

Adress?
IRQ?
DMA?
HDMA?

Will any of this help me if I get it right, and what is right?

And on my amiga I was amazing at scoring with my left winger with long shots. I ran down the flank (for just a second or two into the opposing side) then turn towards goal (diagonally) and make a sweet touch turning the stick from topright to topleft and then left, the ball will bounce just infront of the keeper who misjudges it and its a goal. Ugly, unrealistic but effective (direction in this example is of course while running "away" from yourself) Wingers rule 30+ goals in a season. We'll see if i can pull it off with the keyboard.

Try*:
Adress 220
IRQ 7
DMA 1
HDMA 5

(these are the default values in the DOSBox configuration file)

*for Soundblaster 16, at least

I notice this pops up in DOS the second after dos4gw starts:
Unable to open file mdi.ini
Unable to open file dig.ini

I think my soundcard is called Realtec high definition audio. thats what it says in the device manager. I have a laptop from Packard Bell.

your real sound card doesnt matter
and mdi.ini and dig.ini popped up for me when i selected wrong sound card.
did you run install.exe at all or you just somehow tried to configure dosbox.

you should run the install.exe and pick "ad lib music or 100%" for music and "creative labs SB or 100% compatible", make the program detect other settings automatically ..dont forget to save

btw i would recommend you using pure dosbox and not d-fend

I downloaded D-fend because the install.exe in swos is acting very strange. When I run install.exe through DosBox I first choose language, no problem. Then I get the following options:
Configure
Save Settings
View Read me
View autexec.bat
View config.sys

I of course want to Configure, so I press enter. The heading changes name to install.. This seems to lead to nothing.
In this install file the only options that I actually can do anything with are View read me and Save settings - the other options cannot be entered through this install file.

Thanks for your patience

[running with dosbox]
when you go to configure->sound device you should be seeing this

if you dont see it then you are using dosbox with unconfigured sound drive, try opening dosbox.cfg like and use the settings mighty midget did. or just redownload and dont change any defalut settings

btw, here are files after you configure the game for the right sound settings http://www.zshare.net/download/2788684f701fd6/ (are meant to be put in your game directory)

Thanks for the files! Now sound runs flawlessly. I don't see that menu, in fact it's not even visible in my install.exe s.w.o.s file. This is the first game I try to run through DosBox so I would really like to get my configuration in order until I get another classic game down.

It may not be in your interest to try and help me but if anyone could help me fix my DosBox config I'd be even happier. I don't understand how my dosbox is supposed to be configured. I opened the config file in notepad and I guess these are the fields of interest:

[midi]
# mpu401 -- Type of MPU-401 to emulate: none, uart or intelligent.
# device -- Device that will receive the MIDI data from MPU-401.
# This can be default,alsa,oss,win32,coreaudio,none.
# config -- Special configuration options for the device. In Windows put
# the id of the device you want to use. See README for details.

mpu401=intelligent
device=default
config=

[sblaster]
# sbtype -- Type of sblaster to emulate:none,sb1,sb2,sbpro1,sbpro2,sb16.
# sbbase,irq,dma,hdma -- The IO/IRQ/DMA/High DMA address of the soundblaster.
# mixer -- Allow the soundblaster mixer to modify the dosbox mixer.
# oplmode -- Type of OPL emulation: auto,cms,opl2,dualopl2,opl3.
# On auto the mode is determined by sblaster type.
# All OPL modes are 'Adlib', except for CMS.
# oplrate -- Sample rate of OPL music emulation.

sbtype=sb16
sbbase=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
mixer=true
oplmode=auto
oplrate=22050

Again, thanks for letting me re-visit SWOS. I love this game!

man.. its 40 C degrees out there. i would even draw it for you

oh i know now. when you press the install, it asks you where do you want to install the game from, right? all you need to do is to mount any directory as CD rom in dosbox, then it wont look for floppy drive
so, for example, use command "mount d <any directory you wish> -t cdrom" and then install should run fine

and your dosbox config is allright btw=) so no drawing for you=P
