Sweden had quite a few good punk bands in the 80's and the 90's, KSMB, Ebba Grön, De Lyckliga Kompisarna and Stockholms Negre to name a few. They were more influenced by old school UK punk than today's US influenced punk bands. Unfortunately, they (mostly) sang in Swedish, so unless you're thinking of learning that language, that bit will be lost of course.

Right now: Trashmen - "Surfing Bird" -> Kingsmen - "Louie Louie" -> The Troggs - "Wild Thing"

Modern punk is pretty pathetic compared to the good stuff.

Throw some Chuck Berry into the mix there, No particular place to go, and you got a playlist. k:

Chucky is über cool So what if he plays the same riffs over and over again, I love that kind of bluesy rock'n'roll! *sings' "Maybelline" \o/

and yes, I agree that 99% of today's punk bands are a bleedin disgrace to punk music. There are a few hidden secrets that are true and genuine, but they never get any air-play, so what you hear on the radio is pretty much crap.

That song makes me wistful Chumloofah. Back at home when it would come on in the pub, the room would divide between English backpackers and the locals like Moses parting the red sea.

"He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwhich."

EDIT: And for me it's Tom Waits - Alice.
