Science starts with evidence, which then results in a hypothesis, which leads to more research and analysis to be done to assertain the accuracy of this hypothesis, which may be revised to improve it's accuracy.

Creationism has started with the Bible and has then creatively interpreted and ignored research connected with it to stay exactly the same. That is why it's not science.

And "Intelligent Design" (aka, ID) is the beleif that the universe was created by a deity 6000 years ago with all that it contains also designed by this deity, ie, the same thing, with the christian parts carefully removed, but still the same thing.

Given that there is good evidence to support the theory of evolution, there is no logical reason to remove it from the curriculum in favour of creationism/ID which is based on folk stories from thousands of years ago with no reasonable evidence. That said, there is no reason not to teach both.

In the UK, and I expect elsewhere in the world, we have a compulsory religious education but the government are not saying Christianity is right so we'll only teach Christianity. Students in this country study Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and more. Why can't American schools teach both creationism and evolution - as far as I'm concerned until one or other is proved conclusively, both are viable theories (though only one seems likely to me!).

In any case, IMO, if there is a God (I don't personally think so) or Gods who created this universe, it has certainly evolved from the state in which is was first created meaning both theories could in fact be true!

Well, personally think that both should be taught, but Creationism is not Science, and should not be in Science curriculum, it should be in Religious curriculum.

last night i heard on TV that only 49% of americans belive in evolution. In fact most of them (according to surveys) do not believe that man EVOLVED from ape. even if it was proven to be so.

Btw i think that Evolution theory is not in contradiction to Islam. which is quite interesting....

What most people forget about the US is that it's *not* comprised of New York City, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, Seattle, etc. That's only half the equation. The US is more than half generically "rural" in culture, where rural means grazing, farming, and related activities. There is a general difference of cultural beliefs between rural and urban dwellers. Until the last 25 years or so, these people had no articulate voice in the national media and political scene. first of all creationsim (as far as I know of it, which I admit isn't much) doesn't have any facts contradicting it either.

But wouldn't a belief that some non-christian pantheon of gods created life also be "creationism"?)

P.S. no, I'm not a religious fanatic, In fact I belive that eveolution is the most credible theory of those I know. (key word: "theory")
