I see I am not the only one having problems. I followed instructions in important.txt:
Quote:
Just unzip the game to C:\HODJPODJ\, copy HODJPODJ.INI to C:\Windows directory, and run the executable file C:\HODJPODJ\META\HODJPODJ.EXE
I get different errors depending on the option I choose:

Start a new Game: I can actually begin the game and enter a store, but if I enter a game house, the graphics get corrupted and the game freezes.

Play Mini-Games and Take the Grand Tour: When I try to begin a game, the screen goes black and the game freezes.

I've tried all combinations of colors, display, compatibility with no luck. I've re-downloaded the file, thinking the original might be corrupt, but that hasn't helped. I'm not a newbie, I've configured lots of old games to run on my WinXP system (usually using DosBox or VDMS.) I am tearing my hair out because I really want to play this game.

P.S. So glad I found this website!

It was written for an old version of Windows, wasn't it? Well, then, perhaps it just can't be made compatible with XP. I've got Win 98 the same as Omuletzu, so even if I could download such a big file, I couldn't test it.

If someone can come up with a solution for this game freezing dilemna on XP, then great. Otherwise, there's not much else we can do about it.

Wendymaree, that explains it. I didn't know that the game hadn't been tested on WinXP.

I'm very new to this site, so forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, but if uploaded games can be run on WinXP will there be a WinXP icon next to compatibility? (Is there even a WinXP icon) I know a lot of games list compatibility with DosBox; I had assumed that meant playable through DosBox on WinXP.

Yes, it does.

Our reviewers check the games, of course. And sometimes the updaters check them as well. Most of the people here use XP. However on the rare occasion when both reviewer and updater have win98 then it's a little trickier to test for XP. When Tom (our resident game expert) returns after his brief hiatus, I'll ask him to check the game for us as soon as he gets time. He'll post back here with his findings.

Btw, has anyone managed to get the game working properly in XP? If so, then it must just be a combination of things that are preventing it working for others. I've bought three different Zork Nemesis CDs over the years and sometimes they work perfectly but at other times, I get a freeze up in the same spot. Nothing is wrong with the CD or the game, it's a combination of graphic card, drivers and settings in autoex.bat and win.ini, etc.

Thank you very much for answering my question so quickly. If by chance I can get the game to run under WinXP I will post the information right away. :bye:

I've placed the game offline until this gets resolved. I wasn't aware that the game wasn't tested on WinXP.... tisk tisk <_<
