I'm sorry if I "sound" dumb or something, but I don't get the point of this thread or poll or whatever this is... Are you suggesting AB should place a link or tracker for a Torrent instead of what we have now? And what benefits would we have with that? Do we have so many big games here to deserve such thing?

[/b]
there are quite a few, but now they are just ripped versions. the idea (as i see it) is to be able to have full versions and yet save the bandwidth using torrents.

i was think that if the ppl who know would use it it would save bandwidth.

That would barely be of any real use at all. The torrent tracking functions do consume a certain quota of bandwidth still.

Indeed, that's the point.
In other words, we could have the floppy ver of Star Trek: Judgment Rites for direct download and a full CD ver available through p2p.

Personally I do not see us going the HOTU way, but dividing the distribution in two parts - smaller games and CD-rips go on the site, large games (over the 120~mb quota and full ISO images) to the Torrents.

Emule is right out as a method, because it's quite uncontrollable - once an archive finds its way there, there is pretty much no way to stop its distribution.

right, i only use torrents if really needed (e.g. for DC Games for use with Chankast) p2p isn't very good at all IMO in my experience so i'd say just don't do it personally but it's not my decision, it's the kosta's and if he goes with it, it wouldn't really affect me.
[/b]
why is it not very good?

yeah it's slow, but allows you to share files and download them while browsing the internet normally even on lower speed connection.

when your trying to get 1.0gb dreamcast iso's but it's taking half the day/1 day, you try telling me that's good speed when your looking forward to playing SA2 on your PC and you can't legally get the iso's since you don't have the cable to link dc to pc. that was an example btw but do you see my point? if i have to use a torrent, i use it with shareaza which connects to multiple networks. there was only one/two torrents i ever got that worked fast enough. the rest of the time it takes yonks to work and i don't want to wait that long for one download.

Edit - A Perfect example is this (Torrent Names Censored for Obvious Reasons):

If the idea is like what the_fifth_horseman said, although I won't be able to download the full ISO games if they are provided with torrent only (which if it really happens actually is not really a good news for me, to be honest), but since the CD-ripped version is still available for direct download, I won't complain or object too much. For me, as long as the direct download is still available, as long as I can still download games here even if they are ripped version and not the full version, it is okay.

BTW, I just realized that the option direct connect in the poll actually refers to a P2P program as an alternative to bittorrent. I thought it means direct download. No wonder then that Eagle of Fire mentioned ketchup this and ketchup that

I looked into what Wikipedia has on Direct Connect, and let's just say it doesn't look too inviting.

BT seems to be the optimal choice here.

is it f**k. almost every torrent i get is absolute crap since it's slow unless you have a decent tracker (i'm not going to ask you to post it btw) is it me or isn't it worth it censoring torrent names?

I share usually during night time when there is less traffic. Speeds are much higher then. So often it takes a 600 or 700MB file to download during night. But it really depends on number of seeders.

Anyway my record speed file got slower when it reached about 79% and got back to normal 15-20kb.
