In fact you're both right.
It won't hurt Windows itself, but you can get problems with some third party programs. -(read:crappy programmed ones who absolutely wants to add some idiotic reg keys or alter them by shutdown AKA as kill command)-.

It all depends of how much shit progs you've installed.

I did, and it never caused me any harm, but speeded up Windows turning off considerably. "people at microsoft knew why", hah.

hell no i did not try it. i think instead. you know, the thing with the brain

and it CAN cause you harm. it's not that it suddenly made your pc explode, but it can affect other things, not only "fast turning off omg!"

Quite a few programs do this - especially virusscans like Avast.

So yeah, I wouldn't touch it. Just ask the Dosbox crew - some things in DOS were thought to be useless until they removed it and saw it break quite a few games.
